I have inquired of some folks up here in New Hampshire about attending such an event in Ma. It has always been the opinion that with the gun laws there it is not a good idea to attend. Just what are the laws and it it safe to travel there with your guns and ammo? Steve

(A) I am not an attorney, nor do I play one on TV, nor do I give any legal advice.
(B) I am a CT resident. (C) I am an officer of the Western Mass Bird Dog Club, at which I shoot and hunt at. (D) I am a certified SCTP Youth Shooting Sports coach for the Nutmeg Clay Crushers out of the Hartford Gun Club. We travel with minors, with firearms, with ammunition into (and through) MA to shoot at competitions in MA and the region. (E) I am an NRA certified RSO. With that said...my interpretations at the basic level: (1) When transporting firearms in MA, they must be in a locked hard case. (2) When transporting ammunition in MA, it must be in a separate, from firearms, locked hard case. (3) Do not bring a semi-auto in MA from out of state. (4) Non-Mass residents may hunt and attend shooting competitions in Mass. Please read the following advisory statement from Attorney Neil Tassel sent to the Minute Man Sportsman's Club on the subject of non-resident range use (and firearms) and make your own judgement: https://wmbdc.com/wp-content/uploads...y-Tassel-1.jpg https://wmbdc.com/wp-content/uploads...y-Tassel-2.jpg https://wmbdc.com/wp-content/uploads...y-Tassel-3.jpg |
Ben, thank you for your thoughtful answer to my question. These gun laws get so complicated that I do not trust any "interpretation" that does not directly come from a court of law. It continues to make me very happy to live in the "Live free or Die State".

And to think, what jumped out at me was Bird Hunting in June.
