Cost of primers
Must have really come down from the highs a couple years ago.
Cabela's had Win 209s for $50/1000 and Clerinox /cheddites at $60. In the past the cheddites were generally cheaper --maybe the new tariffs. Using my Cabela's credit card gave me an additional 15 percent off, so $42.50 per brick, I thought that a darn good price and bought several. If they have to be shipped there would be a hazmat charge, but there is a store 10 miles from me.That discount ends tonight. Haven't seen much change in powder prices. |
This is good news on the primer front for sure. Now if we could only get the price of lead shot down & the selection of great powders back, we would really be in business.

Winchester Primers especially. A year ago they were double the price of today.

I was at Cabela's in Scarborough ME last week. There were no Winchester 209's, Cheddite's were $6.99 a hundred, very little powder and all one pound bottles. A few bags of lead 6 and their price on shot had gone up since this past summer to $62.99 a bag.
There was a nice condition Remington 31 12ga with a 26" IC solid rib. A very heavy gun, felt like at least 8.5 pounds, dimensions felt higher than a field gun. Guessing it was somebody's Skeet gun, $399. There was also a 32" Model 12, I think it had a rib, maybe Scott Kittredge will remember, it was also $399. |
Wheeling Cabelas gun prices always seem very high, like $1999.00 for a Trojan 12

The shotshell powders will be working there way into the marketplace. You can pretty much be looking at mostly 1 lb containers. Maybe a few 4 or 8 lbers thrown in but the powder companies will make more selling in in 1 lb containers, so there you go. We already started seeing the Alliant powders in our area. Hodgdon will probably follow suit.

On the primer front--I'm just glad we can get them again; it wasn't that long ago when we were willing to pay just about any price to get our hands on a brick of Winchester 209's. We were ecstatic when the Cheddite's became readily available & we were back in business & not buying from the scalpers. The prices coming down is just icing on the cake with a cherry on top. |

The $49.99 per 1000 Win 209's were at Cabelas in Scarborough Maine today. Cheddites for $59.99 and Federal 209A's for $69.99.
Also stopped at LL Bean in Freeport. Apparently they did not get the memo that the pandemic shortages are over as they were selling Winchester 209's for $12 per 100. |
