Similar 12 gauge hulls
 

For years I hve loaded AA and Gun club hulls as being identical. Are there any other hulls that match them? I may have to go dumpster diving in a while, and would like to use only identical hulls. Thx

You may already know that the other Remington hulls, STS,Nitro, are the same tapered design. I load almost exclusively Gun Club hulls as they are everywhere. They work perfect with a 3/4oz load.

Don't see many Gun Clubs at my club. Gonna have to look harder. Used to be invited to a shoot where you could only shoot new shells bought from the club. I collected many many Double A's. Starting to run out. I can generally get about 5 cycles before they are pitched

The newer 12-gauge Gun Clubs (last few years) are good hulls but have a wide range of lengths. That can be frustrating to reload if you like nice crimps and not getting back into the clubhouse after shooting with many loose pellets in your vest pocket. That’s with a MEC 9000 Progressive press. You set up the press for a good tight crimp and most come out fine but despite that a fair percentage of the GC’s will have a hole in the center or with swirls. That leads to repeated fiddling with the press to adjust its settings. On the other hand Remington STS and Nitro hulls are pretty consistent as regards length of fired hull.

More on loose pellets due to a hole in the crimp ….. over the past two weeks I’ve seen two guns (Perazzi and a GH Parker) that wouldn’t lock up due to a loose pellet squashed between the water table and frame. Both shooters are very experienced shotshell reloaders.

The Federal HOA are the same as STS, just maroon

I worked for Remington in the shotshell business. All the following 2-3/4" Remington hulls are the same internally; only difference is the coating on the steel heads. The STS and Nitro27 hulls have brass heads.
Nitro27 and Nitro Sporting Clays (gold, smooth body)
STS (dark green, smooth body)
Gun Club (light green, light blue, ribbed body, steel head)
Game Loads (black, ribbed body, steel head)
Sport Loads (black, ribbed body, steel head)

For consistency with GC reloads you'll need to separate the hulls into lengths then do some trimming. It takes time but unless you want to constantly adjust your press, trimming is the best solution. Precision Reloading Solutions makes a trimmer. Easy peasy.

No thanks. They come out of the gun,and go back into the reloader. My scores are going down, but it ain't related to shell length. It's being 82 years old. I'm not trying to get better - just get worst at the slowest rate possible
