Heads up, Auction Saturday....
 

I was just on the Amoskeag Auction web site http://www.amoskeagauction.com/91/auction91.html looking at the items for this Saturday's auction. I was going to attend for a Frank Wesson they have but I can't make it.

Anyway, there are a few Parkers in the mix. Three caught my eye, a cased two barrel Repro, a GH damascus and a PH 12ga. The Repro is a 28ga (item #20), a GH (item #82) is a nice gun that would be great if the barrels were redone and a nice PH (item #83).

Thought I would give you guys a heads up.

Robin, Don't they have a nice condition V grade 28 gauge marked for the Penn Hwy Dept also? They had it on their table at the Hartford Show last month.

Could be Dave? I am not going so I only did a very quick scan of the first few pages although I would think a 28ga would be near the front of the list, maybe I missed it. I have observed he likes to sell the big ticket item first, I assume because that is when people still have their wallets full.

Rick, I was told at the show by one of the guy's from Amoskeag that it was used by the Penn Highway Dept to shoot pigeons from under the overpasses.

The stock is marked "PHD"

I had a 26", 1/2 PG, Dogs head butt plated, 410 VH back in the '70s that was marked with the PHD stamp on the head of the stock. It was in nearly unfired condition with all finishes remaining. It left here along with 5 other Parker 410's to fund my purchase of TR's F Grade. Ahhhhh, if I was only born a rich man. But then again, Life is Good.

Just went downstairs and checked, it was one of 4 other Parker 410's and 3 28's (one a minty GHE 26" with tags) that went to fund Teddy's Fox and they didn't get it all done. One of them was a 410 VHE, that I sold to W. O. Odem for an upgrade project, and it was the 410 that I doubled on geese while shooting Federal paper 3/4 oz, rolled crimps. Ha, I breast shot the pot lickers as they came in on final approach. Today, I went up to a friend's regulated shooting grounds and shot 7 birds with the same pencil loads. It has to be one of the best 410 loads. Sorry for the mis-information.

Tom, That is where this gun was marked also...on the head of the stock.

I saw what must have been that .410 VH at an Ohio GCA show in Columbus many years ago. The owner was from PA and said PHD used it to shoot groundhogs along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. I recall the price was $12,000. Charlie Price

Hello Mr. Price, Ha, I think I got around $4500 for it and it was the most I received for any of them. It was only ten years or so before, that I had a PHE 410 on the arm that I sold at the old Balto show back in the mid sixties for around $550. Wow, how tiny bores appreciated in short order. If we only would have had crystal balls. But I have no complaints, as Life has been really Good to me.

Hello Mr. Goddard, Yes, I did own and shot quite a few birds with TR's F Grade Fox, that he took to Africa and South America, for some 26 years, but I sold it early in the new Millenium to fund retirement adventures, and it now resides in the Museum in Cody, Wyoming. Wow,talk about a run on sentence, one too many after the hunt single malts.

their website is very unfriendly- you cannot search it. But i looked at every page and I didnt see the PHD gun.

George, I'll take a look later today also. They had the gun on their table in Hartford along with a high condition P grade. I wonder if it got pulled?

That Frank Wesson pistol is VERY neet. Modern made 41 rimfires are around so one could shoot it, fun. ch

Tom, I tried to buy the VH .410 with PHD marking. As I recall, there was some failed negotiation in the $2500 range. I really liked the gun but in those days, a $100 or $200 difference in asking and selling price was a big deal. I may be wrong, but I think the owner at that time has initials "CB". Now that I think back, the price being argued was probably $1200 versus $1500 rather than $2500.

If the owners of the .410 and 28ga want to donate these guns to me, I promise I'll ask Penn Dot if I can put them to their original intended use:rotf:

Does that mean they can only be used for varmint shooting in PA? I was hoping to shoot bridge pigeons in CT.

Bill, I think this might just work for groundhogs.

Not exactly regulation height and distance for ATA targets but then again, the ATA doesn't register squirrels or groundhog averages:rolleyes:

Chuck, I have enough black squirrels now. I wouldn't want my place to become their favorite amusement park.

FYI, I stopped in Cabala's in Hamburg Pa. on Tuesday and they had what looks like the PHD VH .410 that ahfoxman talked about. It's not currently on their web site. It was in their display case and I didn't get to handle the gun. It looks visually perfect with just a little fading on the case colors but it looked great. I didn't write down the exact price since it was way over my price range but it was somewhere between 30K and 40K.

Chuck, It may not be the exact same gun. My understanding is that the PHD order was for multiple 28 and .410 gauge guns.

Dave, without the serial number of Tom's gun, we don't know however Tom lives in Pa and if "CB" is who I think it is, he lives in Pa too. BTW I'm not that "CB".

This serial number range is way past when the Order Books stopped. All we have are the Stock Books and there were 10 guns made in a row that were .410's starting at 235856 to 235865. Some of these could have been ordered by the PHD but we'll never know unless they show up.
