Our late great friend and co-author of The Parker Story Charlie Price, wrote an outstanding article for Parker Pages with comparison pictures of original and non-original Parker Bros case colors and it was published in Volume 22, Issue 1 (Spring 2015).

Having all the past Parker pages available is incredibly useful. This is actually the first time I’ve used this resource and this article alone is worth it.

If you want to study original case colors, look at the Guyette & Deeter web site or better yet look at their most recent catalog. In my opinion, Parker varied slightly their case coloring depending on the years of manufacture. In the early style of case colors the blues and rust colors all blend in with each other seamlessly and with almost an oily shiny appearance. There are no straw colors. The second generation of case colors are more splotchy where the colors are more separated from each other. Many times you can tell when case colored by outside companies, straw is found around the sharp edges of the bolsters, the action knuckle and for end knuckle, and at other sharp edges of frame and the vertical edge of the action/stock. Fool proof, no, but you'll be able to have a good idea if it's original or not.

My best example is from 1904, but similar to a 30’s DHE I previously owned. Seeing this photo reveals a bit of crud near the trigger bow I hadn’t previously noticed. I added the old “outhouse” hammer gun for comparison.

Here's an example from 1930 that I just got today. It's only a Trojan, but it's absolutely stunning in hand.
