2025 Grand American

4 Attachment(s)
Just wrapped up 11 days at the 2025 Grand American and it was a solid performance for the Parkers.

A few Parker highlights and statistics are as follows:

The Parker SAA went 199x200 in the World Clay Target Singles Championship. That put her in a shoot off for a Class AA placement. We ran the first box but were out after the second. Very cool experience having a shoot off under the lights, but it was midnight when we finished up and that made for an extremely long day.

For the entire Grand, the SAA went 978x1000 (97.8%) in the Singles events. During Grand Week she went 491x500 (98.2%), and, she had a long run of 231 straight.

The Parker GHE went 548x600 (91.33%) in the Doubles events over the course of the entire Grand. Had one really bad event on a very windy day. Wind is not my friend. During Grand Week she went 283x300 (94.3%).

And the Parker SAA went 534x600 (89%) in the Handicap events. Again, really only one bad event. And again, the wind is not my friend. During Grand Week she went 271x300 (90.33%).

Cumulatively, the Parkers went 2060 x 2200 (93.63%).

The 27 yard line has proven to be a real challenge, but I think we’re getting there. One change I made going into the Grand was my choice of handicap loads. Up until this point I had been shooting Heavy Target loads (1 1/8 oz., 7.5’s, 1200 fps). I switched to Light Target loads (1 1/8 oz., 7.5’s, 1145 fps). I don’t feel any disadvantage and if anything, my handicap scores are improving.

Next stop, Vienna, Georgia. Looking forward to a break and maybe some flyfishing.

I’ve also attached a few images from the Grand.

The first three pictures are from the Champion of Champions Event. Our squad from left to right: Me, Georgia Veteran Singles Champion; Ethan Miles, Georgia Junior Gold Singles Champion; Ethan Ledford, Georgia State Singles Champion; and Rory Lee, Georgia Junior Singles Champion.

Been wondering John, will there be anyone to memorialize you in 100 years in "Parkers in Pulp"?:)

I’m surprised no one’s written an article about John and his “old smokpoles” in the ATA magazine , or am I wrong and it’s already been done ?

No articles in Trap and Field. But I’m available for interviews.

Where’s Franzen he likes writing

Dean Romig 08-10-2025 02:28 PM

Right John, you and Mike did a Parker Chronicles article before and it would be easy to do a “Davis Does Trap” story. Heck John, he could immortalize you!

The ATA target year ends August 31, so I’ve shot my last registered target for this season. All that’s left is to see if the Parkers accumulated enough points to make the All American team, and we probably won’t know that until the middle of September. It was a long campaign, 6 months, 7 state shoots and the Grand American. Over 9000 registered targets. Time for a break. The Parkers are still ready to go but this guy needs a rest.

Jim DiSpagno 08-11-2025 07:24 AM

John that rest is WELL DESERVED my friend. You amaze me.

Mike Franzen 08-11-2025 10:20 AM

The numbers you put up are good as any of those legendary greats of yesteryear. Congratulations and well done.

I put this out last year when John Davis made the 27 yard line. He is "somewhat" modest about his ability with the Parkers, but it needs to be stated that he reached the 27 yard line with his Parkers and I believe he MAY be the first shooter EVER to make the 27 with a Parker. Remember, in 1923 the maximum yardage was the 23, then the 25 yard line was the maximum in the 1930's to 1955. By this time, it is likely that not many shooters were using a Parker. I have no proof or way of reviewing the records.

John is the only ATA registered shooter I know of who shoots a Parker all the time and with his making the 27 last year, in my opinion, he is the first Parker man to reach it.

If anyone gets Shotgun Sports Magazine, see if there is a contact for "Average Ed", Ed Clapper. I'll see what I can do.
