Case
I think it will I have a 20 gauge with 26 barrels I will try it.
I won’t be back home till next week. I will follow up. Bob |
The case will fit a 20ga, 26" barrel, but snap cap holes will be for a 28ga.

The two cases I have that are original to both of my 28ga. Repros, one a 2-bbl. case the other for a single bbl. gun, 20ga. snap caps fit snuggly and 28ga. snap caps fit loosely. I see no difference between Emmebi cases made for 28 or 20ga. Repros - other than the possibility of differing lengths to accommodate 26" or 28" barrels. |
Yes, my 2-barrel, 20ga hole measures .700", & my 2-barrel, 28ga hole measures .650"
|
So will your 20ga. snap cap fit in your 28 ga. case's snap cap hole snuggly?
|
No they will not. Not even with a mallet. The 20ga are too large for my 28ga holes. Over the years I've had 4 20 ga & 28ga sets & they were all the same. Maybe you have something different, or you're 28ga case was ment for a 20ga case
|
Well, I’ll be.
I’ve got the two cases that I mentioned above for my twenty-eights. I also have two cases that were furnished for my twenties, one for a single 26” gun, the other for a 2-bbl. set. In each of the four cases, the snap caps fit the same — 28’s are loose and 20’s are snug. |
Who knows how the cases were ordered by PRS back in the 80's and how they were mated to the guns. 3 of the sets I've had were in origin boxs with gun in Parker box & case in separate box & both in a sleeve & then in final shipping box. So, who knows how the pair were matted up or the snap caps configuration on the cases were supplied. All I can say is what I have & 20ga snap caps will not fit in my 28ga cases.

I have 2 repro cases ,1 came with my 28ga, the other I purchased with no gun. Both are 26 inch and only 28ga snap caps fit in both.I tried to put 20ga snap caps in but no go.

It appears your case is a 20ga, 28" barrel, pistol grip case. The pistol grip tucks in just like the toe of the buttstock. If there is no window for the pistol grip to tuck into, then it's for a straight stock.

Thanks for posting the pics, David. Are these both your guns?
I realize this is a bit of minutiae, but those snap cap holes of both cases appear a bit funky. In your bottom pic, are those 28ga. snap caps in a 20ga. case? (It appears the caps themselves are short and appear small in diameter compared the the holes). Below is a pic of one of my 28ga. cases that has a 28ga. and a 20ga. snap cap riding side-by-side. (Notice the snap caps bottomed out leave about 1/8" above the felt). |
No, they are not. But they represent the two style of cases (pistol grip & straight grip). I've have & have had both over the years.
Also, I've have had and/or have 2-straight grip & 4-pistol grip guns that were mated in the proper cases, including snap caps. Also, who knows how accurate the mating of the guns & cases were from PRS were, or the retailer, or the used gun store mismatched them to a case. And/or owners who own severial & decide to sell one & pulls it from the safe & gets put in the wrong case. |
