I'm cured, I'm cured
Finally the 12 steps have been reached successfully at least for a while. For the first time I went to the Southern and didn't buy anything. There was temptation in the form of a wonderful 410 hammer gun but a bad stock repair turned me away and then the GE Lewis 16ga hammergun which I strongly gave consideration to but I have 4 already and there was a nice VHE 20 skeet gun but I bought one last year. Lots of nice guns lots of temptation but my check book stayed intact for now:rolleyes:
I did make a stop in Virginia on the way home and adopted a very sweet 6mo old GSP however:) |
There is no cure. Just relapses! Then is comes back with a vengeance.
|
lots of folks confuse being in remission with being cured

Congratulations and my condolences on the GSP pup! I was raised with GSP's and have two now. They are the best/worst dog. haha. I really do love them and would buy another if my wife would agree. You can hide a shotgun in the house, but you can't hide a bird dog.

In our home, we couldn’t even imagine life w/out a Shorthair. Congratulations on your new pup, Rich. We hope to add another either this, or next yr.
|
I actually came back with one less gun than I had going up which is a real first. I have a bead on a replacement for it and will feel much better when I am back to break even.
|
Showed up with 7, went home with 9, six of the seven made it back with three new recruits!!
|
Way to go Mark, thats the spirit:bowdown:
|
I had to get VERY inventive to get two extra guns in my cases!
|
Simple solution to buying at the show is to purchase one on the way to the show. Then you don't feel so inclined at said show.
Since you didn't technically by a gun at the show theres no relapse or weakness. Show is purely for research and comparison. |
I almost bought one on the way up, but held off.
|
Mark I invented "creative financing" when it comes to buying guns. I have also bought some prior to the Southern and other such events only to be seduced by some small bore Parker, Fox or English gun while there.
I'm not a strong willed person when it comes to fine firearms. I thought I had my last custom rifle finished last fall but a Winchester High Wall action has surfaced and as the saying goes the rest is history:eek: |
All I can say is Thank God there is no Miss SXS pageant at this event. There are enough distractions at that show.
|
yeah Rich...I was doing okay until the exhibitors were rolling up their stuff on Sunday afternoon...stopped by this one guy that had a bunch of .410's...and was looking at an IJ Skeet-Er, decided against it, and the guy asked if I would be interested in an Elsie .410...The two on display, one was toast, and the other had some sort of carving in the stock and forend, so I said I was not. He replied that he had another one in the car, that he could not decide to sell or not, brought it out, and it is within 5% of being mint. Made him a package price along with an Ithaca Flues Field grade 28 bore.....and he took it...so I took 'em.

"Miss SXS" conjures up visions....
. |
especially a 6 frame 8 bore!

Sold one at the Southern and when I got home I bought one. That makes me even on guns and down on money.

This thread remindes of an old Poem:
“There was a man in our town, And he was wondrous wise, He jumped into a bramble-bush, And scratched out both his eyes; And when he saw his eyes were out, With all his might and main He jumped into another bush And scratched them in again.” |
I prefer Dean's comment above.
|
Survived the Southern but recently learned that I am not cured. DNA and available historical data seems to indicate this may not be treatable. I seem to be taking the news quite well. Maybe it'll hit me tomorrow :corn:

This weekend l, I swore I was not going to buy another shotgun for a very long time! Until today.
|
I have my eye on two special Parkers owned by friends. If they become available I'll be back to step one but thats ok because a goal once achieved no longer motivates and my goal right now is to increase the slush fund.
|
One is paid for and on the way. Two more in radar view and being watched.
|
You guys are sick!
|
Ok so whats the point:rotf:
|
There is no cure, you are just in remission.
|
I never what to go into remission or feel I'm cured. I hope to chase great guns (and game birds) until the day I check out. Life is to be lived. If vintage guns are your passion never let it die just write the check and enjoy. Never worry what others think, it's your life.
|
Okay, so much for the guns, let's see pictures of the new pup!!!!!!!

AMEN! |
The gents that i regularly shoot with all shoot sxs's but none have a Parker which in my view is an unmitigated error in good judgement. To help them get this illness called collecting Parkers, i have bequeathed each of them a Parker in my will. My grandson,Logan is covered as are my two Newell cousins. That's the best cure I could think of.

The kids will never know what you paid for the guns, only what they received if they sell them. They'll be happy
|
I made it home with one less gun (my favorite) G.E. Lewis hammer-gun. I hope to sell my GH 16 too so I can buy a GH 20 I found at the southern (clock's ticking). All in all, i'll be in the hole, but what a sweet hole it is... Sorry for that.
Rich, it was great meeting you, Eric, and Mike. I have to qualify you all together, because you seemed inseparable during the southern. What a terrible support group. I can see you guys really getting each other into the best kind of trouble! I hope the pup is happy and healthy. I'm glad it found a home with you and that you guys all made it home safe. Look forward to seeing ya'll again in the future. |
I saw a lovely GE Lewis 16ga hammer gun that gave me serious palpitations:rotf: but I already have several in 16 and shot one (a grade 1 with 32 inch tubes) that hasn't been out in the daylight for far to long. Now if it had been a 20ga I would have been is serious financial crisis.
It was nice meeting you and hopefully the GH 20 will come your way soon. |
