Douglas McDougall's 8 Bore guns and their cartridges and More 8 bore loads book is for sale at Gunnerman books
I had a copy but sold it a couple of years ago. I found another copy last year at a gun show and bought it. There is a lot of advise and loading information for those interested.

Looking for 8 gauge hulls or even better some ammo, thanks and regards.

Last Summer we ordered 3000 hulls. They were sold before I had them. Maybe BP or Precision will have some soon?

Remington Industrial hulls will no longer be manufactured so Winchester will be the source. When available they sell them in case lots of 1500 hulls.

I bought some new unprimed REM hulls off a guy on GB 2 or 3 years ago and seems to me I gave him $3 a piece for them . I wanted some new unfired REM’s for buck , ball and slug loads . And at that price I only bought 100 .

There’s a poster here, Joe Plante, from Alberta who apparently has access to Remington kiln-buster ammo. He cuts off the crimp and salvages the shot and primer. He sells the hulls very reasonably. I just took delivery of 300. They are 2 3/4” long after I even up the hull mouth. The new 8 gauge recipes from the Parker Pages have proved invaluable. 26.5 grs Clay Dot under 1.5 ounces shot and a 1044 wad fit nicely with a 6- crimp. The recipe calls for a 1/2” fiber wad in the plastic wad cup; removing the fiber wad makes this work. They are crimped on my PW375 using my 8 gauge tooling but you could also roll crimp them.

Ed, I bought components from him. There is also an 8g FB page where components come up for sale occasionally. I bought a cubic ton of hulls, wads, OSC, shot sleeves, etc from a guy in AZ for $50!!

Leo, if you do somehow find someone to make some 8g shells for you, expect to pay around $5/shell. That’s about the going rate since it’s not commercially available and most guys hold components close to the vest.

If you guys know anyone going across the pond to England, they have Remington SP8 wads. They can bring them back or ship them back but a business over there cannot ship components.

Cubic ton?! That should last you awhile. Have had success with loading the “short” 8? Did you get your PW tooling from Bruce set up?

Components, recipes and loading presses are not an issue any more. Plenty of opportunities to shoot an 8 with like minded folks at one of the SxS shoots. What seems to be absent recently are 8ga Parkers for sale.

Should have the PW press soon. Dave had a few tweaks he had to make. I did get a bracket to stiffen up the MEC and a new decap/resize die for the MEC too. Bruce made them. That press works much better now.

Get Jr to retool a PW LS-1000 to 8 gauge ! That would be awesome having a progressive 8 gauge loader !

I hope we see some new Parker 8ga participants at the Southern this year. You will never have more fun with a shotgun.
If ammo is an issue PM me and I will do my best to help you out.

It is a hoot! Parker is the event sponsor and Rock Mountain is providing the trophy. Just something about shooting a 12+ pound gun that makes the blood flow.

I put the house and real estate on the market last week and already have a couple seemingly intrested parties . Also got in touch with a semi local auction house to auction off the majority of the household furnishings etc . I hadn’t planned on attending the Southern again but if the disposal auction goes well and I get a contract on the property I think I’ll venture to Sanford one more time and most likely keep the 8 gauge .

I hope you get to the Southern again Craig. I am gong to participate in the 8 gauge event. I am looking forward to it.
To the OP and original question: My only 8 gauge is a Parker TA hammer gun and in addition to smokeless loads, I do shoot brass shotshells loaded with black powder. and fiber wads. Track of the Wolf has Parker labeled 3 1/4" brass shotshells for sale. They work great and will last forever. You will definitely go through some powder and lead, but it is just so much fun!

I know we'll have more 8g shooters at The Southern. I've been in contact with guys that procured the Big Bores in 2025 and they are looking forward to making them go BOOM!!

I have 30 Rocky Mountain Cartridge eight gauge brass cases. They are so beautiful that I will never load them or shoot them. They are in a fitted red oak case with brass hardware built by Allen Campbell and Dennis (Campbell?) from Vancouver, Washington and gifted to me for some unknown reason. The cases were on closeout at the Reading, PA Cabelas at $49.99 per box of ten. RMC retail is $219.00 per ten. Watch the obituaries.

Mike that is great news! I will organize a 5 stand group shoot for $$$ on Firday and the PGCA 8ga Field Event with a high gun trophy shot on the sporting clay course open Friday and Saturday. Both 8ga events are open to all manufacturers but I believe the PGCA Trophy is the high gun shooting with a Parker??? I'm hoping LCS and Lefever are represented again this year. Big fun!!

There’s one young feller that lives about 45 minutes from me that recently acquired a quite nice UK ex Bernie hammer 8 with a Jones underlever and I got the opportunity to handle it a bit last week . That gun felt very nice to me with slightly less drop (or so it seemed) then most of the 8 gauge Parker’s I’ve fondled .

"Bernie" is the late Bernie Liberati, who had the greatest eight gauge collection ever put together.

Although far from young, I’ll take Craig’s comment as a compliment. The gun is a WH Monks. Breck Gorman recently redid the barrels. Very impressive. Dimensions are 1.5”x2”x14.5”.

Correct, the PGCA trophy is for HOA with a Parker gun and is combined score of 5-Stand and Field courses. Stan Hoover won it last year by 1 bird! Well struck Stan!

That is correct Ed, Rick has the 5 stand set up for 30 targets and the course is/was 48 or 50 if my memory is correct.

Yes it is. Minimum the 5 stand is 25 with a two shot option on the single

My memory may be failing me, but I think Rick has it set up as 2 report pairs and 1 simo pair at each station.
or does he change it for the 8 gauge event??

It may be different for the 8g. Either way plan on shells for 30 5-Stand targets.

Mike Smith won the 8 gauge 5 stand event in 2025 with a perfect score of 30!

How can we shoot against a guy like that? I think we need a feature article on his 8 gauge gun. Maybe a related article on his physical training regimen.

Yes he did but he didn’t shoot the field course. If I remember correctly the Field Course is 50 birds.

You're right, he came down with 8 gauge hulls that he had shot in his other 8 gauge and they didn't fit the 8 gauge he was shooting.
He mentioned his dilemma before the 5 stand event and said he couldn't participate. I intentionally brought plenty of ammo down in case there was any problems with my reloads or anyone else.
