Yard Sale Find, 10 ga
At a yard sale today I picked up 200 or more Winchester 3.5 in hull, a bag of 50? new unfired and primed 3.5 in hulls, 2 bags of SP10 wads and some other type of 10 ga wad. Also 50 shells , a mix of lead and steel, even a few tungsten, all 3.5 in. Grand total was $50 for all.
Makes me wish I owned a 10 ga. I realize most vintage 10s are the short 10, but figure these could be cut down. |
Nice find

My best advice.........Harold, sell the loaded 3 1/2" ammo, buy the short 10 ga. gun, cut the hulls down and load'em! I buy 3 1/2" 10 ga. hulls and cut them down to load, don't know I've seen 2 7/8' new hulls for sale. I shoot 1 1/4 oz light loads in my 10s for doves and clays, a bit more gun than I want to carry for quail or pheasant. Besides, my friends and customers would disown me for shooting quail with a 10. They howled when I broke one out on a hot, windy day while hunting White Wing doves. The birds were high, moving fast, and the girly men with 28's got watch me put a limit in front of my dog while they burned thru boxes of shells.

My favorite gun for the odd times I have been grouse hunting is a J.P. Sauer 10 gauge 26" 6 pound 4 ounce ultra lightweight. I put a 1 1/4 ounce boomer in the left barrel, just in case.
