I have a Parker Bros. with laminated barrels and exposed hammers. From information on the website, I was able to figure out that it was manufactured in 1891, Frame Size 1, Barrel Weight 41, but I haven't found anything about guns with no grade marked that were made this late. I'd love any input you have to offer. I've attached photos of the water table and barrel lug. I found it interesting that the website said the number on the barrel lug (?) is not a serial number, but a sequence number, yet mine matches the serial number on the water table.

Likely a grade O.

The number on the barrel lug and on the water table is the serial number. The Serialization Book lists it as a PT 12 gauge with 30" barrels.

Grade 0 as Brian said.

Would the L on the flats confirm it has laminated barrels? Wouldn't that suggest a grade 1? The Parker Story has no laminated barrels in the 0 grade barrel material summary chart, and 2,275 in the grade 1 barrel chart. From what I've read here there were no absolutes in the Serialization or Parker Story when it comes to barrel steel though.

What is actually on the gun and its rib description trumps what the Serialization Book states.

Correct Bob and they are rarely or never seen on a Grade 0 gun. But with the various Laminated barrel types we have seen them up to Grade 4.

Pardon my ignorance but what does "PT" stand for?

Ok, Bob said the "L" on the flats designates laminated barrels, which makes sense. Can anybody tell me what the "E," on the flats and just above the barrel weight, stands for?

There are many stamps on Parker barrels the meaning of which there is no record or definition… the E may be one of those.

The stock book is available for this serial number. The examination of the stock book, and order book if available, with a letter request may show the original grade. I've got a 0 grade 10 gauge (1897?) top lever with laminated barrels that is on the Parkers Found list. A long ago letter request included the production info, but IIRC the price it was sold for also put it in the 0 grade of price list at the time.

I answered this question to the best of my knowledge yesterday but my response has disappeared.
There are many stamps on Parker Bros. barrels that we don’t understand the meaning of… the E may just be one of those. I don’t know of any barrel used by Parker with an E designation stamp.

You need a bigger phone screen, or new glasses, or both. Look to the top of this page, post #11

I see that E Edgar but the fact remains that I/we have no idea what it indicates.
Most likely the mark of a barrel worker.

I agree there are many stamps whose meaning escapes us. I was only pointing out that your previous reply didn't 'disappear', just that you missed it.

And once again, Mr. Edgar never let's an opportunity pass him by.
