The corn is being cut around my house now and we have started seeing more birds. Keeping fingers and toes crossed.

We have a 3 acre field of sunflowers here in central Virginia that they seem to be hitting right regular !

We should get it bush hogged next week some time !

And hopefully I'll have about 100 rounds of 2 1/2" 12 gauge loaded for the opener and I can use my W&C Scott sidelock !

Might load 50-75 2 3/4" 16 gauge for my Fox AH as well

i cheated this year on shells went to wally world bought me a case of light load 20 s and 12 ga... 44 dollars a case...bout all ive been loading lately is the 8 and 10 ga short shell... gonna use the russ jakson johney cash gun and a little ds grade 20 ga l lefever plus my no 4 grade lc smith 12 ga for doves if there any to shoot at.. craig we cant raise sunflowers here any more the deer will eat up fast as they come up... charlie

I suspect they eat them here as well !

But it doesn't seem to slow the birds down to much !

But then we also have DCP's for the deer

Here in MD. the dove population looks to be above average. Sept.1 is not that far away so it should be good.

got up early and watched to see what was a coming in to the dove field..had about 50 doves seting on the powerline...had about 200 crows..and at least 50 canadian honkers ...there should been 300 doves on the powerlines but i guess 50 is better than nothing...them honkers better not be there opening dove day the goose season opens also... charlie

forgot to add done some bush hogging today while we were working my soninlaw waved to me i ran over to see what he had found..it was a bigcotton mouth bout size of a mans arm..id grabbed a still rod out the back of the truck but was also packing a little ruger bearcat..the little bearcat done the job..i aint got much use for cotton mouth snakes..and believe it or not did not get into any bees nest....thank the lord..wife had bought me some binadrel in case of more bee stings had the pills in my lunch sack a briar pulled them and a box of 22 s out my lunch sack and the bush hog ate all the binadrels and done something with the 22 s and nearly eat my old hat... all in a days work i reckon...charlie

My goal for the season is to get a double on doves and, hence, join the Parker Doubles Club.

Head for Argentina and you can shoot doubles all day long!!! You can take lefts and rights coming at you-- or going away from you. On crossers--you come in from behind shoot a bird and keep moving for the second bird near the head of the group. I know--it's not on the flush--but it's still a double!!
