Dad perhaps it's time to set up the reloading bench. I'm doing my own now and it's a lot more fun to empty the cases than to fill them but you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm loading 12,16, &20's all 2.5 inch cases low pressure.

My new grouse & woodcock load is from New Era Ammunition. 2 inch paper 16's roll crimped and if memory serves it's a 5/8's oz load.

I remember picking every shot paper hull and giving it a smell as a kid. Sometimes I still do it with plastic but it an't the same. Gonna get me some 16 paper rst's.

I am reloading 16's. were did you get your paper hulls and whats your recipe?

20.5 gr of SR7625, Win 209 primer, Galandi SG16 wad. I'm loading 2.5 inch RST hulls scrounged up from various shoots. Brian @ new Era is loading the paper hulls. You can get these from Graff and Son but I think they need to be trimmed if you want the 2.5 inch length.

Paper hulls are only good for one loading as they weaken either at the base or don't hold up well during the final crimp stage. When I hunt with paper shells I just use the RST ammo other than the special 2 inch 16's. Brian did a custom run for someone so I asked for some extras.

I have a case of 8's and 7.5 copper loaded in the truck for the AM. God that 7.5 in the left hits em hard.

Thanks Richard I'll be trying out your load soon as Graf gets in some more paper. I guess the dowell and exacto knife blade trimmer will work on paper as well. Are you 6 or 8 or roll crimp.

I use a 6pt crimp. They are nice to hunt with (paper) but not pratical for any type of volume shooting.

Standard 1900s loads per LC Smith Hang Tags:
12g 3 dram 1 1/4 oz 1165 fps
16g 2 1/2 dram 1 oz 1165 fps
20g 2 1/4 dram 7/8 oz 1155 fps

The 12g 2 5/8" 1 1/8 oz. 3 1/4 Dram Eq (1295 fps) load of the 1920s ran about 10,500 psi.

The Super-X 2 3/4 inch 3 3/4 dram equiv. 1 1/4 ounce load (1330 fps) was near the SAAMI max. of 11,500 psi.

Baschieri & Pellagri data BUT you must add 500-1000 psi to the reported pressure to get an approximation of the SAAMI equivalent PSI. The 16g F2 Classic is factory listed at 9,867 psi but testing by Tom Armbrust showed it to be 10,500.

Gamebore Traditional Game 16g 28gm (1 oz.) is reported to run 1260 fps at 8122 psi but pressure testing by Tom Armbrust showed it to be 8400 psi.
