. 44 and a 95gr bullet?
Im looking at my (old) Cartridges of the World,, I see two cartridges that might be close to what you are looking for:
44 Long Centerfire
Or
44 Extra Long Ballard
A few other short 44a are listed but sadly none have cartridge dimensions.
Is it a straight wall or bottleneck case?
If its a bottle neck case its possible to be the 44-60 Sharps( necked). This says the case is1⁷/⁸" case.
All of these i mention have 200gr up to 396gr bullets.

I do know a guy who might be of some help to figure it out, he collects Ballards but knows these old single shots.

If you can figure out what you have you'll most likely need to form brass

Hi Garry,

Are you looking for a 44-77 bottle neck or 44-90 bottle neck cartridge? Both were popular Sharps calibers. I have some 44-77 ammo with case length of 2 1/4" and the overall length is length with the bullet is 2 7/8".

Sounds like you have the 44-90.

I would look at Buffalo Arms(they are out of stock, but I would reach out and see when more might be available, a good company to know about anyway): https://www.buffaloarms.com/

Rocky Mountain Cartridge can make brass: https://www.rockymountaincartridge.com/

Happy to help if I can!

Good luck,
Jay

I suspect this is the 2 5/8-inch case you are looking for --

Don't see any for sale in the latest Ward's Auction. There is a box of .45 2 7/8-inch.

According to my Cartridges of the World there was a .40-90 Sharps (Necked) and a .40-90 Sharps (Straight).
