Lets see, a D grade 12ga on a 1 1/2 frame, 28" barrels, M//F in deminsions that fit me.A bit of color left on the bottom and sides, mirror bores. 6#11 oz.

It has only taken me about 30 years to make the jump!

/thought I would post additional pictures - while in good condition, the stock has more than it's share of dents, dings and scratches. Most should steam out. Checkering isn't too bad.

One thing that has me puzzeled is the full coverage checkering on the foreend - it looks original, about the same wear and the grip, and it is mullered.

Yes, full cover on a D would be truely out of the ordinary and unique.

Not unique. I had a DHE with 30" Damascus barrels, straight grip, skeleton butt plate, ejectors, 1-frame, fully checked forend, and twin ivories all supported by the research letter.

Really nice engraving. All D's are nice but some have what I consider nicer engraving like this one with more background behind the dog. And those few bumps on the wood are like scars on a boxer, just means she has been there. Enjoy. Congratulations on a great find.

Not sure of the correct terminology, but I do not see the teardrops behind the cheek panels on this stock. When did they become a standard item on D's?

That feature was introduced back in the four-digit serial number range... In other words, right at the beginning of the "dollar grades."
If you want to check on the originality, gently lift and rotate the trigger guard tang to see if your gun's serial number is stamped into the wood.
