I believe I saw a listing there- a gent has two Parker receivers- one pre-1905 patent date, not sure about components or if it is just the receiver and top lever- the other may have all working parts and is post-1905 patent date- he listed the serial numbers- To determine the frame size, you would need to measure the between center hole distances of the firing pin holes, is that right? Always wondered why the frame size for Parkers was on the barrel lug bottom face, NOT on the frame-
I have an old HBS Crescent "mini-boat anchor" sidelocked hammer 12 gauge receiver to hold down prints, papers, misc on my gun bench- I think I'll maybe buy those Parker receivers and use the emptied one instead, and relegate the Crescent to a goose decoy anchor--

Any firearm except for a NFA (Machine Gun) can be disabled and if done in a manner acceptable to the BATFE Technical Branch it would cease to be a firearm under Federal law. Machine guns can be disabled DEWAT, but still require registration on a form 5.
If you want a Paperweight, first step is to speak to technical branch. Not a big deal, just some paperwork and a bandsaw. My inclination would be to cut it into two frames right down the middle lengthwise, and have two paperweights. If it were me, I would just accept that it is a firearm, and keep it intact for the day when it might be restored. But if the frames are for some reason, unsafe, the above is how you would go about changing its legal status. |

Thanks- if I had to make a "two-fer" from a Parker or Smith frame/receiver (I have a few with parts for those "rainy days"--I might pass on the bandsaw and try out my new shop "playtoy" a plasma arc cutter, used 120 psi line air pressure, and will slice through ferrous or non-ferrous metals like poop runs through a goose (thank you Gen. Patton- Sir)--
I once asked Buck Hamlin why he thought you had to ship a receiver through the FFL channels- strip all the parts from a 12 VH no. 2 frame receiver, how do you make it fire a round? Even with the parts intact you still need the barrels to contain the shells. I love his answer- he told me "Well, I guess the ol' BATF thinks you'd use it like a hammer to smack someone upside the head"_ ![]()

Yes all 4 receivers had to be logged in by the FFL . That was not a burden in light of all the freedoms we all enjoy in this wonderful country.
