Remington Parker(2368xx) VH 28 00 frame 28 inch barrels originality

I have been asked to determine the originality of a Remington Parker 00 frame 28 gauge. I am not familiar with Remington cyanide case colors. I have owned several Del Grego restorations and can usually spot them. Please look at the pictures and give me your opinions as to originality of case colors,varnish,checkering(side panels) and double ivory beads. Gun is as listed in ID & Serialization book V H 0 C 28 28. 14" lop to DHBP. Unstruck BBL wt 3. Chokes are marked on bbl flats IC/M.

It might just be me but the case colours don't look original to me. They could possibly be a DelGrego job. Also the chequered side panels don't look original for a VH. It is a nice Parker even so. JMHO

Neat gun!
It's tough to tell from these pictures but I would say the colors are redone based on the thinning of the engraving in some areas and the fact that the frames were still being cased colored with the bone and charcoal method at the time this gun was made. (Late 1934).
As far as the barrels are concerned, the choke markings do not look factory. My guess ia that the chokes were opened up from full & modified and stamped with the new choke sizes. The checkered side panels on a VH grade always raise suspicion. The flaking of the stock finish at the action is odd too.
Is the original butt plate still there, or has a pad been added?

Chances are that the colors were restored by Delgrego. Maybe some come other parts of the gun, like bluing and stock finish. And yes, the checkered side panels are not correct. They are most likely covering up come sort of repair. Someone has stamped the chokes into the flats which was not factory work.

Does the top rib have a makers mark of an type on it?

I have an A grade gun that was sent back to Parker?Remington to be fitted with 20 and 28 ga barrels and metal redone (many of you have seen the gun) and the Remington colors on that gun are not close to the one you have pictured. Also I have a late B grade forend of Remington era and again the colors are not close. Sorry but I agree with George not Remington Parker.

From the May 2013 NRA show Parker exhibit, the top gun is a 1937 V 410 with Remington applied case hardening colors. Note the coloration and the absence of tiger stripe bands of color.

Although the bottom of the 28 is different from the sides, the striping of the sides looks like classic seventies Del Grego. However, I can't see Del Grego applying the choke stamps. That is corner gunsmith work. Nice gun in great shape.

I have seen a lot of questions on Remington Parker case colors on this forum. I hope you will find the following photos useful when it comes to originality. Both of these guns are factory new and unfired. The case colors are as they were when they left the factory. As you can see they are quite different from the 28 gauge pictured. Hope this helps.
