Research Assistance - Inherited Parker Brother Shotgun

Hello all, I recently inherited a Parker Brother shotgun from my Grandpa and I am now doing some research on the model. This site has been very helpful in explaining to me how to verify the manufacturing date and what the various meanings of the stamps on the gun. What I've found so far, and please correct me if I'm wrong, it was manufactured in 1899 with Vulcan steel, it's frame size is "2", it's barrel weight is "4-1", and its rating grade is "V". I've never owned or done any research on Parker Brothers shotgun, besides this site, If someone can shed a little more light on what exactly these marking mean I would greatly appreciate it. I also can't seem to find the meaning of the gold shield on the buttstock. Again, any assistance is appreciated, I've also attached pictures to reference. Thanks again.

The shield is a place to put name etc. the 4 1 is unstuck barrel weight in lbs and oz. the 2 on the bottom of the barrel lug is the frame size.

What you have is the most popular Parker Bros. double made -- a 12-gauge, VH-Grade. More of them made than any other grade or gauge, and the great bulk of them on the 2-frame. The VH-Grade was the lowest priced Parker Bros. double offered from its introduction in 1898 until 1912 when the Trojan Grade was added. The first years of that range were big years for Parker Bros. production until the crash in late 1907 slowed things down.

If you want more detailed info, post pictures of both sides of the stock, checkering and frame. Show the barrels including the muzzle and top rib. Some generalizations could be made about originality and condition if you like.

4 lb 1 oz, that has to be one of the lighter weight 2 frame 12s I have seen.
