Regarding Scott's new gun, I know this was bought through a private sale and not on the open market. Highly desirable small bore Parkers seldom reach the market and are often sold privately by word of mouth.

Thanks Bruce, Dean, et al The one that I have I bought at Holt's auction in England. It has British proofs and an initial plate with the name McGraw engraved. I plan to bring it to The Southern to try for more information. The Parker letter that I recieved had very little new info aside from the fact that it was made & shipped in 1925.

Rich, the gun I bought with a factory checkered butt was a BHE 16. I also have a AAHE with a factory checkered butt. The Order books indicate, no steel butt or something to that effect. The AA I have is the only AA that I saw in the records with a checkered butt. A few more mid grades have surfaced but any early gun with a factory checkered butt is rare. I am not talking about the latter skeet guns.

Mark thanks for mentioning the gun/guns with a checkered butt. I thought you bought one but couldn't remember what it was, I'm astounded I remembered it at all, that was several years ago.

Oh I know. I just have a hard time not saying "you're the one" to Parkers. Tis better to be fickle about grouse than women, and much less expensive as well.

The perfect Grouse gun is as elusive as the winning lottery ticket. What fun would the perfect Grouse/Woodcock/Pheasant/Quail gun be anyway?

My guess, the X's are place holders in the standard form portion of the letter that Chuck failed to change into actual book number and actual grip type.

I suggest you PM Chuck and ask him to correct this.

I agree with Eric in that the engraving is more defined. My DHE 16 132731, from about the same year looks less defined. It too, has a st. grip but has 26" barrels.

Yes it was a DHE 20 straight grip with an original checkered butt. Not all of them changed hands in deals from widow women wearing red shoes - this was strictly an Eastern gun out of VA on the outskirts of the capital of the Confederacy. Run the numbers and go figure.
