Over the last week and a half, I've been doing an Estate Buy of a collection for The Kittery Trading Post which includes nearly thirty Parkers (as well as a number of other fine doubles). Most are Damascus - and include Lifters, Hammers and Hammerless spanning a range of grades and conditions. As well, almost all are either 10 or 12.

I thought I'd post it here to give you a "heads up" that I finished all the pricing/inventory only a few hours ago. Attached is a picture of only some of the inventory - many of them Parkers. You can call the store during hours of operation (9-9 M-Sat or Sun 10-6) and they should begin to appear in the Used Gun Inventory later today/tomorrow (through the link http://www.ktpguns.com/ )

Anyway - I figured being associated with this Forum should have a few privileges -and a heads-up on a Parker acquisition of this size is one of those.

Hmmm... How quickly can I get there from Augusta?

Stupid me - I drove right there two hours ago on my way up here to the lake.
I thought about stopping in but thought I'd give Kathy a respite from always making detours to gun stores...
Guess I'll learn my lesson one of these days

Dean, the next time I see you I'll tell you about the more than outstanding AAHE that I passed by on the way somewhere last year. On the way back, I called and it had been sold.

We're seeing more and more of that sort of thing - like the VHE 28 ga. In New Jersey in late April, or the 32" 20 ga. BHE earlier this week in NH.

The lessons I'm learning from these episodes are "Strike while the iron is hot!" or "Make hay while the sun shines." or "He who hesitates ends last." I'm sure there are others but it all boils down to "Nothing ventured - Nothing gained."

My theory has been buy it now figure out how to pay for it later. It usually always works out in the end. Peter is there to be robbed by Paul and then Paul can get mugged and then you have a new gun it's easy when you know how

And you must realize that the "Pucker Factor" increases logarithmically the minute you leave home with a big bundle of cash (or head for the credit union for an advance on your LOC) to do a mad dash to look at the latest rumored (or real) treasure. Drive safely!

I stopped at KTP today on my way home from the lake. The place was mobbed! The big tent sale in the side lot probably brought a lot of folks in but they're usually pretty busy there at KTP on any weekend afternoon.

To make matters worse, the gun department was seven people short of a full staff - but young David very politely handed me every Parker I asked to examine.

The first one that caught my eye was Ser. No. 9895, a 10 gauge "Grade 2" lifter with a silver oval on the ball grip in addition to the shield on the top of the grip. It was obviously Parker factory work and it looked to me like it had had something engraved on that oval but it was almost polished smooth from wear that it was unreadable. A research letter may mention this as it looked to be a presentation gun or a prize gun for shooting score.

The next one I looked at was a DH 10 gauge on a 3-frame, Ser. No. 82509. It has nearly perfect screws and has been expertly refinished many decades ago. The Damascus barrels are beautifully rebrowned and the Damascus pattern is so fine I had to look at the barrel flats to check for a DD stamp - I was surprised to see just a single D. The bores are absolutely perfect and the wood is beautiful too - not oil-soaked at all. Nice grain and the checkering looks to be at least 22 l.p.i. or finer on both the grip as well as the forend. The gun has a DHBP that may be supported by a letter (we have seen other Parkers that would normally have had a SSBP but research supports the DHBP.) If I didn't already have a Damascus barreled 10 ga. DH this one would definitely have come home with me. You'll look long and hard to find a better one!!
