Thanks to everyone who gave me information on the above gun, 158846, on another thread. When I first saw the gun I copied the serial number and then after reading the reply from others I assumed I copied the number wrong. I saw the gun again today and I had copied the serial number correctly. Though the Serialization book says it is a D grade with Titanic barrels it is definitely a V grade with ejectors. The book also says it is a 28 inch barrel but these barrels measures 32 inches and all numbers match. I doubt the beavertail forearm is original as the attaching lug on the bottom of the barrel does not match the photo of one in the Serialization book. Also the engraved metal forend tip that is normally on a splinter forearm is attached to the beavertail. I will say the beavertail is a very good job with the wood matching the butt stock and checkering very well. It is a 3 frame and is a very solid gun. It should date to 1912 and I don't think the 3 inch magnum was around then. My thinking is a previous owner returned the gun to Parker to have the 28 inch barrels replaced and possibly with 3 inch chambers. Obviously a SWAG as nobody knows for sure unless it is in the factory letter. Right now the gun is on hold and I will probably buy it at the beginning of the month. I appreciate any information I can get from forum members.

Do you or anyone know what the AK3 looking symbol is on the other side of the barrel flats? I don't recognize it or the circled D.

No I do not recognize that one either. Is this gun from California it would interesting if it was ordered at the same place as my 3 frame 12 in Sacramento. They are only about 120 serial numbers off.

Right now it is sitting in Denver. If I buy it I will definitely get a letter on it as I do all my Parkers.

Thank you very much. I have to admit I did not even think of Remington Repair Codes. At least if I buy the gun and until I get a Parker letter that lets a little bit of light into this. I love this forum.

You're right about the forend loop on the barrels. Another confirming fact that the BTFE is aftermarket is that the forend iron is not of the BTFE type that will accept the reinforcing screw.

Is that the bolt that runs back from the very front of the forend? Any ideas on why the book shows this gun as a D grade rather than V grade? Is it just a mistake in the Serialization book?

Yes, that is the bolt.

I'm sure it is just an error in the Ser. Book. There's nothing about that gun that would even suggest a D or Grade 3 gun.

I can't even venture a guess as to the significance of the D in the circle stamp. D Grade guns never had that stamp. Where the V in the circle is stamped a D Grade would have had a T in a circle for Titanic Steel or a D for Damascus. The grade of the gun would be stamped as a number 3 in the location where the D in the circle is stamped.
