Right hammer/firing issue

I have a PH that has performed great in the past. Yesterday I noticed if I do not close it hard when changing out spent shells, the right side will not fire. I can "snap" it closed fast and semi hard and it will fire. After close the action hard I can feel that there is tension on the trigger, but if I open it again and close it slowly, it will not fire by pulling the trigger. I removed the stock in the non firing mode and the hammer is cocked. Any ideas?

Cleaned it good last night, and still the same results.

If the hammer is cocked, then it should fire when pulling the trigger. Unless there is something worn and causing parts to not engage as it should. I am having a hard time thinking of how closing the breech would relate to operation of the triggers/sears.

Hi Brian. You might check the triggers again. I have similar problems with other doubles and some times wood swelling around the trigers bind alowing one of them to ride slightly against the sear. They will cock one time and not the next. Just a sigestion and its the only thing I can think of .

That reminds me of a time several years ago, we were on a camping trip and I took along a Trojan 16 To shoot some birds with. A hunting friend showed up to have a few beers and I proudly had to show him my 16 that I had just put together. I started with very nice barrels and a reciever, but no forend or stock. By the way I ended up way deeper then I should have on that project, but sometimes it goes that way. He extended his arms to handle the gun and I proudly handed it to him. He opened the breech, and immediately slammed it shut, so hard it brought tears to my eyes. I retrieved my gun and put it away, back to the safety of the gun case.

Chris, I had the same problem with two of my "Elsies". A good cleaning and new springs solved the problem. Good luck.

Re-cleaned everything again, blew it out with compressed air. I found that I must have over tightened the rear screw under the trigger guard. I had over timed, after positioning the screw in the correct position, it functions as it should.
