Collector Box of Parker 10 G Brass

Just watched a vintage box of Parker (green label) 10 G auctioned off at
Morphy's (lot 737) . It contained the empty brass shells, primed, and listed as fired. The box was intact, but the label was pealing off. Sorry, I could not get the picture to download from the site I was using.

Anyway, the estimate was $100 to $200. I bid $150 (I have a 10 Hammer gun) and watched as the final bid hit $650. I had no idea that old Parker brass in a box went for that. As far as I could tell from the poor photo the brass, it was not marked Parker, just some note re the primer.

Im not at all surprised. I sold a slightly better box of West Meriden Parker 10s at Baltimore for $750 last March. How'd you like to have a case of Robin Hood Indian labels? $3250 ea would be a nice days work.

I just found an ad for an empty box of Robin Hood Indian 10s for $975...I would bet that a majority of our members can remember when you could buy a nice VH 20 for that price.

The showcase attendant could not get the lid off the Parker box when I asked to examine the shells. The Parker label had separated from the "not Parker" under label, but still no access to the inside of the box. I have no idea whether the brass was Parker marked. I am not a shell collector, so I didn't insist on any more attention. No bargains at that auction in the gun category. No key collector guns either.

Bill, I was the same as you suspect of the shells inside the box, my bid was 600.00 so the person or persons who were successful probably had a bid of 800.00, I quit bidding and after all I have a box from meridian with the green label and I can put some real parker shells in it! I saw a photo with the lid off the box but could not make out the shells inside. I bid 700.00 on the Nimishki rifle,did not get it either, probably spelled that wrong, gary

No catalog picture would identify the shells. The box and sublable were not very nice. I did not watch the rifles sell. What was the lot number of the Nimsche rifle? I'd like to look at it.

Yes, I did get the information. Thank you. Pertinent to the pigeon rules of the day, Parker shooters were issued ten gauges of the upper limit of weight rules, 11 pounds. All ten gauge hammer guns made for Parker company shooters that I am aware of were made to that weight and on #4 frames. Your gun is a much more pleasant gun to handle.
