Butt Plate Comparison:

The Flanders Quality 2 and the two barrel set Quality 3 are both 1886 guns, 563 guns apart. A side by side comparison of the butt plates illustrated below. The left one is the 4 frame 10, the right is a 3 frame 10. The plates look similar, perhaps identical. The 4 frame butt stock is noticeably thicker from front to back.
The letter for the Flanders “Outhouse Blaster” has been requested. I’ll share it if it contains anything interesting other than ACME hardware blah blah blah.

Odd that the Grade 3 has a hard rubber dogs head butt plate where the standard would have been a skeleton steel butt plate. It must have been ordered/requested that way. Maybe the letted will address that.

The letter made no mention of butt plate preference. I can point out another 1882 Grade 3 with a Dogs Head Butt Plate. It’s a Puglisi listing. I wonder if the Skeleton Plate was as standard as we are led to believe. However, with its
13-1/2” LOP it may not be a valid example.

The skeleton steel butt plate was most definitely the standard for the Grade 3 and higher. But Parker Bros would do just about anything (within reason and good taste) by request.

My 1880 16 gauge Lifter was made with thd standard skeleton butt plate but was sent back to Parker to replace it with a hard rubber plate.

That's a nice buttplate.

Both are number 3 buttplates. It is the largest hard rubber buttplate parker offered. Used on 3 frame guns and above.

Made to look like a skeleton but the thing I’m most impressed with are the screws engraved to match the checkering.
