GH butt stock question

A new acquisition. Letter has been ordered. A 1905 GH 12, 1 frame with 26 in bbls choked cyl and full, 1889 patent but 1910 boltplate--probably a factory return. 6lbs 6 oz on the digital scale. My question concerns the buttstock. A Pachmayr recoil pad was added in the long ago past, and the DHBP removed, except for the spur, which was cut off and left in place. LOP to wood is 14, with the curve intact, so nothing removed there. The stock has what may be a factory reinforcing rod installed, but no patent stamp behind the PG cap, only a yellow/white inlay pictured. What appears to be a reinforcing rod shows on the butt, down near the lower screw hole. Appears to be two concentric circles, pictured. Also, the butt is stamped CAL B as shown. Any ideas? My guess is it is" OAL" for over all length then the "B" corresponds to a length with pad or just length of wood without butt plate. That probably was the smiths notes on a particular gun in his shop. Just a guess.

I think the wooden 'dowel' in the butt is to fill a hole where the screw of a BHBP went, so they could re-drill for a screw for the recoil pad. The 'dowel' behind the grip cap looks like someone filled a hole from a sling swivel.
Just me, over here, guessing.

Except that the scribed centerline, done at the Parker Bros. factory, runs right across the dowel plug so I don't think it was done when the pad was installed.

If you blow it up, you'll see that the larger circle, with evidence of the scribed line, is the impression of the boss on the back of the DHBP. The smaller circle, plugging the screw hole, has no scribed line.

A great gun, Mike. Love these Damacus G's, the guns of which I believe created most of the fame of the Parker gun. This one is a great upland gun and with interesting issues. Have a lot of fun with it.
