32" VHE VR trap gun...

I recently picked up this ol reliable and it still shoots!
I was finally able to go out to the bunker and shoot. Of course my shooting buddies all flaked so I shot by myself. I had loaded a couple different loads to try out.
18.5 gr of 700x, federal hull, claybuster 7/8 wad, same powder/hull with a REX 24 wad and my normal bunker load of 19.3 700x with claybuster CB4100 in a AA hull.

The first round I shot the federal with clabuster wad. By the end of the round I had a pocket of loose shot and some poofs, pops and farts - I won't load that again. This load resulted in a 17.

Now I knew I had a learning curve on bunker with my Parker as it's a tad high for me and I see all the rib between the beads, I might add a pitch spacer...

Anyhow I shot a 21 with my usual load. Then the load with the REX wad in my first barrel and the normal load in the second gave me a 23. I'll revisit the REX wad from my Perazzi! To finish out the last round it was my AA recipe both barrels for another 21.

I'm betting this is the first time this particular gun has shot bunker targets. I'm pleased with the gun, my performance wasn't stellar but I haven't shot since last fall so of course I had to shake the cobwebs loose.

The fellow you acquired your gun from had a rather Intresting BHE 12 gauge 32” vent rib gun with trap dimensions at Hausemann’s . Although at some point it’s my understanding DelGrego had totally redone the gun .

William, Bunker is a tough game. There are more bunkers popping up but it's still rare to be near a club that throws Bunker. I get to shoot it maybe once a year at North Mountain in Muncy Valley, PA. I know which Parker I'll be shooting there this Fall, the 34" VH straight gripper F/F. What's your BHE choked? Men's Department?

William Machauer 06-20-2026 04:53 PM

Yes Craig I saw that one you mentioned.
Mike , I've been a bunker shooter since 1983. I really dont shoot anything else except for a little skeet and helice on occasion. Of course I bird hunt every chance i can!Is Les Greevy still running North Mountain? I shoot at Ontelaunee over in New Tripoli PA. Back in the late 90s/early 00's I was running the International part of the club and Mr Greevy was just getting his junior shooter program up and running. They would come down and shoot with us often.
As a teenager I used to shoot with Ernie Hausmann when he lived down here in NJ.

Bunker is a humbling game. I'd call a 21 and a 23 pretty darn good with that Parker. Nice shooting !

William Machauer 06-20-2026 05:04 PM

Thanks Randy, it's off my average but again a new gun and I haven't shot since last fall so I'm more than pleased!

William pls check your PMs. Thanks, K.

I’ve tried everything except bunker trap and so far in my life as to what I prefer I’d have to say 1. Colombaire 2. Boxbirds 3. Skeet 4. ZZ Birds 5. Trap

And sporting clays :)

International Trap is like pigeons. Once you try it, you can't get enough. International Skeet is almost as good. My years of I-Skeet were the best shooting years of my life. My dad took me out to National Capital Skeet and Trap when I was about 12, turned me loose. Many decades later, I retired as the senior member when the club closed.

William, the cure for seeing all the rib between the beads is: Remove the beads. Great shooting. Leave the Perazzi in the gun cabinet.

William, I never shot Bunker at Ontelaunee. I am a Life Member there but when I used to shoot there I was doing action pistol. That was many moons ago. I think Allan Chubb had something to do with the trap ranges? Up at North Mountain, Dan Hrabko is the guy I am familiar with. He also shoots at our place when he’s back from Florida. I never met Les Greevy, but for some reason I think he’s at Keystone?

Daryl Corona 06-21-2026 09:09 AM

Craig. It's a shame you didn't make Prospect Hall yesterday. The fitasc was a blast. I could do that every week. You also could have shot trap and skeet. BTW, columbaire coming in August.:)

William Machauer 06-21-2026 10:40 AM

Mike , I am certain that Les Greevy was the driving force behind North Mountain. That was 20 odd years ago. I was running the bunker then and I was more than happy to get his kids shooting with us. He never uttered a word of thanks.
Yes Allen was apart of /ran Ontelaunee back in the 90s. He now has Keystone under his thumb.

If you ever get a chance come on down and shoot with us, a few hundred bunker targets will get your
skills sharpened up for every other game!

Will

William, another one of our shooters is on the BOD down at Ontelaunee. That would be Joe Mule.

I go back to when Dick Eichelberger and Tom Olewine were on the BOD and running action pistol.

William Machauer 06-21-2026 05:18 PM

I knew Tom Olewine. I have met Joe once or twice.

[QUOTE=Mike Koneski;450465]William, I never shot Bunker at Ontelaunee. I am a Life Member there but when I used to shoot there I was doing action pistol. That was many moons ago. I think Allan Chubb had something to do with the trap ranges?

Yes Chubb had "something to do with the trap ranges" like the San Andreas fault had to do with past CA earthquakes! Loved or hated him, he ran a tight ship and held some of the best international trap matches in the country. Grand Prix of America and the German Shoot come to mind. The Italians, longtime bunker fanatics, loved the place. Several of the more well-heeled Ontelaunee bunker shooters followed a Europa-Middle East circuit every year; starting in Germany, then on to Montecatini in Italy, Cyprus, Istanbul and Cairo.

One year in the GP of USA Michael Diamond and a buddy came all the way from Australia to "warm up" for the Olympics. They both remarked how competent and refined the bunker at Ontelaunee was; Diamond went on the win the gold medal in Atlanta in 1996 and in Sydney in 2000. My heyday there was 1990-2001. Greatest shotgun game in the world!

William Machauer 06-22-2026 06:27 AM

Ontelaunee still has a GPOA match. Allen is believe throws one as well.
I've known Allen for 40 odd years, as you said you either love him or hate him. When I got back into shooting in the mid 90s Allen was pushing the game to grow. He has always been a very passionate proponent for the game.
When Allen left Ontelaunee John Wolfington took over and then I took over when John had personal issues. Then after my 10 years of match director Rocco Barra took over. Allen was responsible for us getting 15 new Nasta traps. Knock wood those machines are extremely reliable!
While my tenure there i did my best to throw more matches, get more kids involved.

William Machauer 06-28-2026 05:58 PM

I took the VHE to shoot ZZ BIRDS today. I didn't set the world on fire with a 24x30 but boy did I win the best old gun category! Quite a few folks were asking to look at it.
I think im going to change the pitch , dont worry it has a half inch spacer that I plan to cut.
Im also going to try some 1 oz loads or just stick to my 24gram bunker load. At some point the max load for ZZ has been dropped to 1oz.
