Is it unloaded?
 

We recently had a mishap at our house because we didn't check to see if it was unloaded. Grandkids were staying with us and went down for a nap. During the nap my wife decided to bake. Turned on the oven and came back to a kitchen full of smoke which smelled like an electrical fire.

Apparently, the grandkids put the super heroes down for a nap as well. The Hulk, IronMan and Batman are toast! The dual fuel range may be ruined. The smell after 3 weeks is still there. Range is 3 years old and is now discontinued, parts sporadically available. Cost to replace would buy a very nice PARKER.

So, check your oven/range prior to turning it on!

OH MY GOD. I have had a similar experience. Our NEW Wolf 48" range when we built our house in 2006 got to week 2 when my wife decided to line the enamel with foil to keep it like new. I told her not to put anything on it. Well, the heat welded that foil onto it good and the only fix was to have a crew come out, take the whole thing apart and rebuilt it, electronics and all, around a brand new chassis. Thankfully the kitchen place we just dropped $100,000 felt bad for us and with my wife's sobbing gave us the chassis for free, and I paid for $600 in labor. All in all ended well enough. See if you can find a chassis somewhere like Appliants parts pro or something and see if you can rebuild it? I can tell you from experience that ain't coming off. They say someday you'll look back and laugh.

Tough one Dean. Those superheroes were no match for your grandsons!

I feel your pain x3. This is the third time my wife has had an incident with very expensive kitchen appliances. First she shorted out a Thermador range by lifting the element to clean under it (oven kaput). Then the current Thor commercial range she did the tinfoil trick you spoke of. Most of the damage was to the drip cover on the bottom, which we replaced.

As for your challenge, check out the picture. Used some mechanical devices where the plastic melted into the openings, then soaked in G96, then mixed in bartenders keeper to make a slurry. Scrubbed on it with one of Dean Romig's expensive scrubber pads as Edgar has called it.

Now to take apart the door to replace the heat gasket.

What's the big deal? It doesn't look any worse than our oven, after my wife goes to Maine for a week.

Reminds me of an incident when I was about 12ish. My mom was in the hospital, my dad was in his office drawing up plans for a home. It was around noon and I figured I’d help out by preheating the oven to make a pizza. I smelled smoke and opened the oven and to surprise there were flames and smoke. Ran back and got my dad. He came out and extinguished the fire. I forgot mom would store her Tupperware in the oven. OOPS!! I turned it into a melted blob of plastic. Lesson learned. Always check the oven before turning it on. :whistle::eek:

If anyone can fix this, Dean can. And if anyone can tell you the story so that you laugh hard enough to split your incision — yep…it’s Dean.

Tough going Dean, but think of the keepsake you now have!:)
