I don’t have many good action shots, but here is my contribution.

A recently acquired VH28, and a 28 repro I’ve since sailed down the river for a 28 repro with a DT.

A very nice pair! Tell us more about the VH, please.

The VH 28 is nothing special. It is your typical 26” barrels 00 frame with twin ivory beads. At some point it was converted to a straight grip from its original PG, at least the letter, book, and condition of the wood relative to the rest of the gun would lead me to believe so. The trigger guard was properly extended as well. The job was well done, but I’m unsure who did it. Forend might be the refinished original, not really sure, doesn’t matter to me. The gun was in my tax bracket and dimensions.

Garry L Gordon 04-08-2026 07:32 AM

Very nice! Is it choked suitable for woodcock? Looks like a bird killer.

Dylan Rhodes 04-08-2026 07:35 AM

It’s choked for a little bit longer range game. M/M

Dean Romig 04-08-2026 08:27 AM

“Nothing special”…?

It’s a Parker Brothers twenty-eight gauge, and IMO that’s special enough for me!

I agree with Dean…a special little gun.

Harold Lee Pickens 04-08-2026 08:56 AM

Oh, I like that one. Dylan

I was inspired to dig through my safe. Here is the DT repro. Not as interesting as the other posted, but also new and unfired. At least until this fall…

Also uncovered in my dig was a Franchi renessaince and a Tristar Bristol.

Dean Romig 04-08-2026 11:04 AM

Pretty wood on that Repro!

I expect after hunt pictures with at least a couple of those (please, Sir).

With all of these nice 28s displayed here I wonder how many of the owners will be at the Southern and could share with the attendees on the Parker Tables. Would be great to up the number of participants........

Update on the mysterious Cabela’s 28. Through some persistence and gentle persuasion I managed to track down the gun and buy it. Long story. I picked it up Saturday and still sorting things out. Stock has some crack repairs and other issues and someone dunked the entire receiver in hot blue without disassembling it. The chambers have been lengthened and I hope to Run it up to Jon Hossford in the next couple days to have them measured. The bore end of the barrels measure great for bore size and chokes (.018/.019) and they ring beautifully I’ll keep everyone informed. Hope to have it cleaned up and running for
The Southern.

Frame size?

O Frame. #162906. All parts match. Bores cleaned up very nicely. Hot blue came off pretty well but left a dull grey patina on the metal. Trigger spring disintegrated from the naval jelly but I had another that fit. The only other part that is suspect is the pin through rear of the receiver that was pretty peened up on one end, out of round and difficult to remove. All of the internal parts cleaned up nicely with kroll and a wire brush. Can't wait to have Jon check the barrels and give it a go.

I would guess that a letter has been ordered?

Yes. Nothing interesting though. Sold to a hardware store and except for the chambers, it matches.

James L. Martin 04-14-2026 09:38 AM

162906 is the highest serial number I have recorded for a 0 frame 28ga.

That's cool. It wouldn't be the first time that I've stumbled onto a "special" Parker. A couple years ago I completely stumbled onto the earliest set of Titanic barrels we know of. As my grampa used to say when we were playing golf "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good Dan". Another of my favorites was "You don't have to draw pictures on the scorecard Dan, you just write numbers" :rotf::rotf:
