Ya Dean,That was the old 283 crank in a 327 block trick.Made for a great little small block motor. Put a set of "vette" fuely heads on it,Edelbrock manifold,Hooker headers and a Duntov solid lifter cam and a dual point distributor and you had one nice "little" street motor.
God...Its ALL coming back now.. Gear heads forever

Dave, you are a bit younger than I am. We couldn't afford the "new" 327 motors, so built our 301s with big pistons in stock 283 blocks, even before the 327 was introduced in '62 model year. The Duntov style modifications, 100% sourced from the Chevrolet dealer parts department, was about the best we could do as barely legal mid teenagers. I was working part time in a medical instrument manufacturing shop for less than two bucks an hour. Thanks to my bosses for part of my car interest because they were both gearheads, one only a few years past a '41 Ford Business Coupe with a Columbia two speed and full race flatty. He was also in partnership with an Army buddy in a Black Shadow. When I went to work for him, he was hauling his family in a '58 Mercury Colony Park wagon with a big block. Life goes on. I'm driving a '74 Country Squire with a 460. Am I imitating my old mentor? Not quite. He didn't have a house full of Parkers. "Demand" created the price of the "fuely" (2.02" intake valve) heads. I bought several sets of heads with 1.94" intake valves that breathed probably as well as fuely heads at about 75% of the price. The 1.94 fuely heads could be made to breath almost as good as 2.02,s.It was all in the porting and polishing.Also matching the gaskets so there was no step was important. Boy I wish I had a dollar for every hour I spent with a die grinder way back when.
Damnit Dean...Now ya got me thinkin about that "T" bucket....Aw never mind I would probably kill myself anyway...

Dave, your reputation as a bigmouth will never exceed the reputation of a true bigmouth. We'll see you at your next milestone. Dean and Dave, nothing would make me happier than to put together another nice smallblock for fun. However, not only am I beyond getting my hands dirty, I found out from driving full body SUVs with great big motors, that you just can't impress yourself with the acceleration of a seven thousand pound vehicle, no matter what you do to the engine. I thought my 454 2500 series would be fun to drive, but a quarter million miles later, I had yet to turn a tire. I guess I really don't want it back that badly. Of course it was entertaining to watch people look over from the other lane when I was going through a tight turn and that Detroit Locker let out a sound like a trio of chain saws cutting into a gun safe. Linda always asked whether we should have that thing "Looked At".

I may just buy it. Heck, I've paid more for Parkers so why not?? Crazy little "T" with a small block, lotsa chrome, tuned pipes, Mickey Thompson Fatso's on the rear, bright yellow with a "Big Daddy Roth" style paint job . . . hmmm. . . What a hoot to show up at Hausman's in that thing . . . I'll have to work quickly on a chromed gun rack though.
