I have lived in this spot 22 years. Every spring I have a hen partridge rear a clutch between the house and the road. Every summer I have partridge walking along the stone fence beside the driveway.

We had a terrible windstorm in April 07 that quite literally scared the birds out of the woods; they walked on the roads for days. The lack of cover during the summer brought in a great crowd of hawks. The prolonged snow cover this April delayed nesting; I hadn't heard a drum or seen a bird all spring.

Pam was coming up the driveway and a hen partridge put on the follow me act in front of her. Several little ones crossed from wall to woods. Nesting was late, but at least this hen and clutch made it.

Where there is life there is hope. Pray that the hawks, four-legged predators and excessive rains don't reduce their numbers.

Good luck with your brood Austin.

Hopefully they continue to give you a good show. Not sure where my bird went this summer. Didn't hear any drumming this spring for the first time in years. My woodlot is absolutely prime nesting habitat and I'm letting the wild roses take over the lower yard for feed. Hopefully I'll have some at the feeder this winter.

Austin;

Do you hunt your feathered neighbors or go deeper into bush?

I do not have the heart to shoot the squirrels in my grove, I go way out in the country to do my hunting, provides several wet stops that are fun on the way home. Also the stop helps ease the itch from the skeeter bites. A bumper crop of skeeters have arrived this year, we can not even sit out on the patio in the evening if there is no wind.

I believe this year will be a fair year for squirrel as the nut crop is looking good so far. We have had too much rain also but it seems to have had no adverse affect on the mast crop.

Roger; The remnants of the four old fields that touch the 5 acre house lot are out of bounds. I begin to hunt when I cross the second stone wall.

Best, Austin
