I've decided to bite the bullet and get a old DH restocked. I would like to get some suggestion as to who this job should be sent, any body willing to give an opinion? I would like it to look like the original, it has skelton butt, the gun is about 85% = 90% case colors and the Damascus pattern is very strong, the job is worth the expense. (broken at the wrist, wood missing) Any comments? Thanks, Jerry |

I too looked hard at that gun and intended to buy it, however I forgot to check back before it ended and was 30 minutes late doing so. If you got it at that $1004.99 price, you did good. I was going to buy it and then send it to stock fixers, this way you get to keep the original old stock and have them make it stronger than what you could replace it with. My 2-cents. Brian |

I also looked very hard at that one... very nice early DH. Those early one piece hinge pin DH's have very nice and different style of engraving pattern. I would just sent it to "stockfixers" and have them fix the crack, hide the dowel pin and partially refinish it and it should be good to go. Inletting for the skeleton butt plate is going to cost a fortune. Kurt |

If the stock can be repaired then IMHO thats the way to go. I just had a gun restocked (see the Hollywood gun post) and it came out very nice but costly. Kurt is right about the cost of fitting the ssbp as I'm going to have a CHE 20 restocked and the ssbp will add about $800 to the cost of the job. |

I have not seen the gun and I don't know the economics involved, but whether or not the existing stock fit the new owner ought to weigh in the decision...and, mebbe that is just what drove the decision toward new wood before the initial post was made. Barring unusable dimensions, I'd opt for restoration. ts |
