I am new to the PGCA  and would appreciate any help.  I inherited a 20 gauge, D grade, frame size 1, and I am pretty sure the recoil pad on the gun is not original. I have no idea where to start to find out what would have been original on this gun, and if I can find such an item, I wonder if anyone knows of a qualified gunsmith to work on it, preferably living in Wisconsin.

Thanks for any comments.

What's the serial number and what kind of pad is on it now?  We need at least that much to give you information.

The serial number is N 188940, according to the serial number listing I think that means it was made in 1920

Dean's.

An outstanding example of the way a D is supposed to look.

Bruce is right in showing the standard skeleton steel buttplate that was fitted to D grade and above. Some were ordered with a pad instead of the SSBP and some were ordered with checked butt or rubber butt (indicating a 'hard rubber' or dog's head buttplate) but again, the skeleton steel buttplate was the standard.
