Even the cemetery appears to be poorly kept - too bad this sickly economy has forced municipalities to cut back on simple maintenance of parks and cemeteries.

Thanks for the pictures Dave. I'll make it a point to visit Meriden soon . . . will you be my tour guide?

Dean ,Welcome home! Even with the unmowed lawn... all the wildflowers made it seem very nice. Anytime ya want...it'll (is that a word?) be my pleasure.

Can I make a serious suggestion for the BOD to consider.  I cruised through the National Parks Service web site and believe that the building and all things in Meriden associated with Parker guns may well qualify for a National Historic Site designation.  If the Parker gun is truly the greatest American built double of all time, then I think the USNPS would give serious consideration to purchasing, restoring and converting the building to an historic site.  It could well become a Parker museum in partnership with PGCA.  If it did come to pass, I could see some folks donating pieces. In my case, there is zero family interest left in guns.  I think I would donate mine rather than having them converted to cash for settling the estate.

Here are some excerpts from the USNPS website.

Cheers,
Jack

The National Park Service helps communities across America preserve and enhance important local heritage and close-to-home recreational opportunities. Grants and assistance are offered to register, record and save historic places; create community parks and local recreation facilities; conserve rivers and streams, and develop trails and greenways.
We hope to see you soon in a national park and invite you to explore the ways we can help you preserve what’s important in your hometown.
How many areas are there in the National Park system?

The National Park System comprises 391 areas covering more than 84 million acres in every state (except Delaware), the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. These areas include national parks, monuments, battlefields, military parks, historical parks, historic sites, lakeshores, seashores, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, and the White House. Learn More about National Park Designations.
National Memorial: A national memorial is commemorative of a historic person or episode; it need not occupy a site historically connected with its subject.
National Historic Site: Usually, a national historic site contains a single historical feature that was directly associated with its subject. Derived from the Historic Sites Act of 1935, a number of historic sites were established by secretaries of the Interior, but most have been authorized by acts of Congress.
What is the National Park Service Budget?

FY 2006 Enacted - $2.256 billion
FY 2007 Request - $2.156 billion
