I will have to hunt with out my favorite hunting partner this fall.  My son went to Paris Island today, to begin his 3 months of basic training for the Marines.  After witch he will have 4 weeks of battle training and then 6 months of schooling for his mos.  He will have 10 days of leave at the begining of sept.  after that no leave till the schooling is done.  I am gone to miss him, but alas they grow up and persue their own dreams.  He hopes to get leave next fall for our anual outing with the guys to hunt grouse and bear.

I was in for three hunting seasons and hunted every one of them, somewhat.  Congratulations on your good fortune and on you son's choice.

Ben: All my blessing to your son for signing up and to you for having to wonder if he will come home in one piece if he is deployed to a combat zone. Those who sign up to defend our country are the greatest of all Americans and are my heroes. We owe them everything.

Semper Fidelis to you and your family Ben.  It says alot about your son that he chosed the Marines. If you think you're a proud father now, wait till the three months are over.  I thank your son for his service.

Ben

I spent 5 interesting years in Marine Green and am proud to have served. My oldest son followed with a four year tour. You should be very proud that he has chosen a  honored  path.

The Marines is a bigger commitment than my three years in the army, SStg Hamilton salutes your son! Good luck to him and bless him for his courage.

Congrats to you and your son !! My hat goes off to all that serve our country, they are true Patriots and I have the utmost respect for their hard work and dedication to their coutry. They love their country more than most that make the rules in Washington. I feel for you and the misses and the future stresses that your family may endure.  I know that I will have a heavy heart when my boys leave the house, in whatever they choose to do.

Thank you for all your kind words.  I will pass them onto him.  I am very proud of the man he is becoming.  He is 21 years old.  He finished up his education in auto and diesl mechanics early, by doubling up on his classes.  also held down a job at the same time.  He enlisted 3 months before he was done with school.  Once he is settled in his job with the marines,  he plans to attend night school for mechanical engineering.  Unless he is deployed.   As for the sleepless nights in the future, some ones son or daughter must serve or we would not have the freedom that we enjoy, nor would we be the greatest country in the world.  I have placed him in Gods hands many times through the years,  and do so now and will continue to do so.

If he ends up in North Carolina, for his job training, I may just have to bite the bullet and go downthere and take him hunting.  Maybee quail.

Ben
