Just wanted to post this in thanks to the Giles Family for throwing me a little birthday party recently. It's today actually, the 10th, I've managed to make 39 years above ground and continue to be amazed at the fact.

This was the cake that Anita baked for me, it was mighty good I can assure you.

Also thanks to Ed and Nancy for being there and for the little gifts. I drank a beer out of that glass last night.

Thanks again folks, an old bachelor like me really appreciates things like this more than you know.

Regards,

Destry

Tack on another 40 hunting seasons, as I have, Destry, and it's still just as good pushing 80. Happy Birthday!

Goose hunting last day of season January 15 at Chezzetcook not far from the beach and got the only one that came in, with the little 20.

Greetings and a very happy Bday Destry. 39?! I only remember 39 because I had my first of 11 various orthopedic surgeries that summer.... back surgery. Was back walking ridges but not carrying a pack a mere 7 days later. Carrying rocks for a living is hard on a guys moving parts. It was a glorious summer and every year since I've wondered if I'd be able to get back out and do it again... guess I'll find out this coming week. The last two years I could still walk 25 yr olds into the ground.... not so sure about this year but I'll sure give it a try...  I've learned over the years that, rather than muscle mass, it's mostly between the ears when it comes to that.

King. 79? Out in January bagging geese with a 20ga? I would love to have been there and hope to be able to do the same some day... and many more for you.

Happy Birthday MH.  Ringo says gettin' old ain't for sissies; but, if you pay attention, you might get smarter.

Now, next year will be somthing....who is bringing the "over the hill" decorations....?? I will bring a bottle of your favorite whiskey....what was it?? Jameson...?? How do the Irish spell it...Wiskey, or is that the Canadians ??

I look forward to shooting the big guns with you this fall...the 5 frame bbls are getting redone and Edgar has the wood... should be shootable by October.

Many thanks for all the kind words boys, I really appreciate it.

I had a couple good cigars and a few glasses of Jamison over the course of the day.

I've only got to last three more months to make it into another waterfowling season. *crosses fingers*

Fill us in . . . what's the significance of the poliwogs on your cake all swimming in the same direction?

Dean;

When I saw the (baloons) I asked Anita what was the meaning of the lollypops, ergo quite a bit of smart mouth flowed in my direction. I believe I would have suffered less if I told her she was fat.

We all make a faupax ever so often, but it takes time for a wife to let it pass.

Destry, Your original post reminded me of something but first let me congratulate you! Many happy returns! What I was reminded of was the old saw: Grass Widow. A Grass widow is a divorced woman as her former husband is still above grass! David

One of my favorite lines out of a movie is in one of John Wayne's Rooster Cogburn films. He talks about how he married a grass widow from Cairo, Ill. and bought a restaurant with proceeds from a robbery. Cairo is just south of my home town, always fun to hear your home area mentioned like that.

Destry: To honor your birthday I went fishing today. 145mile flight but gorgeous hot day; it was 85 at the lake! This is part of the haul. They absolutely loved that Rapala, or maybe it was the vintage Mitchell 300 and Wonderod I used..... I caught these in 15min or less. They hammered that thing! Came home with 18# of filets....

Richard you do live the life, I went out trolling for walleye with Jim the other day and we just couldn't get on fish. Went 15 miles out, worked spoons at four different depths, did all we knew to do. We only boated three, one nice one and two small, and had one other strike in over 4 hours on the water. I did catch the nice one on my rod. *wink*

Destry

P.S. I guarantee you, or Hick, or King could outwalk me pretty easy.

I had to do something before I start 2wks of work this weekend. Seems daily I've been up at the house that burned helping them move and clean up stuff and get their new travel trailer working. Plumbing was broken, water system needed all sorts of stuff, fixing screens, all this stuff they don't know how to do. It's been almost a full time job. Sure looks good now. I really wanted more pike in the freezer so just had to take a day for myself.

Happy belated bday Destry. I've been at the coast since last Friday. I'll bring you a bottle of Jamison when we get together..  It seems that Mr & Mrs Giles really treated you well, they are truely good people.  I hope that girl of yours gave you a special treat.?
