I am brand new to this website so please bear with my ignorance on Parker in general. I just had a 16ga VH with 28" barrels given to me as a gift. First off, this website is great. I've been able to find out quite a bit about this gun. However I would like to know if it has been restocked. By reading the info on this model from the 1917 catalog it appears that all of the VH models were produced with a checkered and engraved stock. The stock on my gun has none of that so am I correct in assuming that means it has been restocked? It also has a hard plastic butt plate instead of the original rubber one. It's either a restock or someone has seriously reworked the original. Nothing is right on it. Comb nose is not correct, shouldn't have a ball grip and it should be checkered. This stock could have been made that way be removing wood from the original. The cheek looks right to me, which would seem odd on such a crude restock job. I guess I'd vote that it's a reworked original. Take the screw out of the trigger guard and pull it up and rotate it enough to see if the serial number is stamped in the wood under it. If it is and looks right(post a pic if you can), it's an original stock. You can get a correct replacement Parker butt plate from Galazan. I agree with Rich...Check for a serial number as Mr.Flanders suggests.It looks to be a great shooter if the barrels and action lock-up are good. Have the barrel wall thickness checked by a good gunsmith BEFORE you shoot her! |

I would say it is a restock because there isn't a shield on the bottom of the the stock. |

Thanks guys. The gentleman who gave this to me intended it to be a shooter. He sent it in to a gunsmith to make sure it was safe to shoot. I'll check this afternoon to see if I can find that serial number or not. Thanks for the help. Erik |

It almost looks like something is stamped/etched under the trigger guard but I don't really know what to look for. Is it just my imagination? If it is something it's not very clear. Erik, Your gun has definitely been restocked. If the stock were original you would have found the serial number clearly stamped into the wood under the trigger guard. There are a number of other tell tale signs that have already been mentioned. Is the serial number engraved onto the trigger guard? I don't seem to see it in the photo. Another thing I do see is that it appears that the receiver has been blued rather than the original Parker case coloring. I have a 20 gage VH that was finished the same way. I think it was a popular thing to do a number of years ago. All in all you have a nice shooter Parker that didn't set you back a ton of money so if it checks out safe to shoot than go out and burn some powder and have some fun with it. |

Thanks Larry. The sn is stamped on the bottom side of the trigger guard. All the serial numbers I've found so far match. I'm actually quite excited to shoot this. The guy who gave it to me is an avid bird hunter from Ohio and just moved out here to the Oregon coast. He plans on taking me out hunting this fall.
