I am wondering how much added saftey the shorter sub-guage tubes add in a damascus barrel?  Can a damascus barrel that is marginal with regular guage low pressure ammo be that much safer with the shorter tubes?  It would seem that these tubes end about where the forward hand is placed.  Or does a 20 guage shell going into a 12 guage bore underneath the forward hand significantly reduce pressure?  Any studies been done on this?

The short answer is NO! If you are using full length tubes or even the 1/2 length you are OK. Chamber only is not recommended by the manufacturers.

Briley has made me 12 inch and 16 inch tubes. It is my opinion that they work very nicely for these reasons:

1: over the counter skeet loads work nicely for clay bird games in 10 or 12 ga guns.

2: patterns from full choke guns usually measure about IC with the tubes.
