I just recieved my July/August issue of Shooting Sporstman, and on page 18 is an article concerning Purdey's New All - Damascus Gun! Many points of interest but here are a few:

Nitro Proofed

Premium priced

(Don Kaas, this one is for you) with interest they will produce a 20 gauge hammer side by side

Lon- having handled Purdey's 30" 20g ejector hammergun twice in as many weeks, I may just sell all my guns and buy a pair;)

Don,

I truly wish I had the disposable income to order a "Premium priced Purdey"

When China's T-Bill's start to mature in October, we are going to see a new era of inflation, and a premium priced Purdey, is going to move to astronomically priced! Order 4, sell 2 and those two will pay interest.

Don, I hope you buy a pair and post the pictures, so the rest of us can look! Lon

Right now my biggest problem is which two (of too many..) guns to take to Argentina for a week of duck hunting early next month...but with all due respect to the baggage handlers of the world, I think I'll leave the Purdey at home. My pal, Mr. Bickel has already chosen two Parkers for the journey, a 32" 12g #2 frame DHE and a 30" 20g 0 frame DHE both T3 guns. Russell has not warmed to Damascus as of yet...as he is a Purdey owner, as well, perhaps Audley St's decision to re-introduce Damascus will raise his temperature on the subject...

Lon: Please note that the guns are fabricated from Damasteel, which is not pattern welded (but pretty cool  )  More infro here:

http://www.damasteel.com/
http://machinedesign.com/article/damascus-steels-from-powder-metal-1118

"All parts other than springs, tumblers, seers, cams and non-visible screws and pins are fabricated from (Damasteel.) Each visible part of the gun- action, forend iron, triggerplate, bow and guard, rib, fins, etc.- were cut from re-forged billets so as to procure the best display of the pattern available in the steel."
"If there is sufficient interest, we will produce a limited number of guns as 20-gauge over/unders, 12- and 20- gauge side-by-sides, and 20-gauge hammerguns. We have yet to finalize a price..."  Nigel Beaumont, Chairman James Purdey & Sons

Drew,

I have re-read the article, and all refrences are to Damascus Steel!

"Why not?" Beaumont said, "There has always been an affinity in the modern era for Damascus steel, and many people have harbored ambitions to make the tubes again."

Drew, I certainly defer to you. Please explain what we are dealing with. Lon

Well since a Purdey is totally out of question, I wonder if Tony would consider making up a straight stock model 21 (16 gauge) with 32 inch Damasteel barrels? I've to call Lou any how.... Lon

I just got off the phone with Lou, and he was at a severe disadvantage, as he did not know anything about Damasteel. He said, he doubted anyone would want a Damascus Steel 21, but he was going to go pick up the current issue of Shooting Sportsman.

In closing, he said they might work very well on a "Novelity Gun" they were considering bringing out. I ask Lou if I could field test the prototype...

Now, Gentleman.... what gun was famous for it Damascus Steel? They are already have the tooling for a Parker, they have out Foxes,....Hmmm

Let me see DHE 16 gauge straight stock, SSBP, 32inch Damasteel barrels. Lon

Thanks Drew,

Modern Damascus! I have slipped back into reality, after my speculation of a "Damasteel Parker". Oh well, it brought a heart throb! Lon
