Any suggestions on the TLC part of your response will be appreciated.  I have hunting rifles, and a bunch of handguns, but this is one of a kind for me, and I want to learn the best way to handle and maintain it. I think it is more shameful to be ignorant and to hide the fact, than it is to be ignorant, but willin to learn.  I am eager to learn.

John, Your Father-in-Law was partly right about modern ammunition. There are some loads that you should never shoot in your old gun, but- if the gun is in good condition then there are loads made today that will work fine in your gun. You need to know the chamber length. Many older guns of that era had 2 7/8" chambers. RST makes a shell which would be safe for your gun. You may re-load 10 ga shells which are cut down and there are many recommended loads which will work. Someone here can send you a copy of Bell's experiments. You should shoot your gun if you like shotguns and you can join the Vintagers or just keep watch and groups of members get together to shoot often. David

TLC: Other than the crack on the stock cheek, if that is what it is, I always dismantle and inspect/clean/repair as necessary/lube any Parker I buy. They all seem to need that much. Generally they just need a good cleaning and lubing inside.

John: It may have already been stated, but I would have that crack at the head of the stock properly repaired before I would even think about shooting the gun. That problem will only get worse quick if not properly repaired.

Just My Humble Opinion.......George

I'm not sure that is a crack.
