I have long admired the Parker shotgun.  Grew up in Maine surrounded by many of the fine guns.  I have owned only one in the past and am looking to buy another.  I have found one that fits me perfectly but i think the price is too high and would like to know if i am incorrect.  The above gun has just a little of the damascus twist pattern showing, no case colors and the stock has been cut and then a piece replaced to bring back to length.  Seems like a solid gun and could be shot.  They measured the wall thickness at 30 thousandths 9 inches out from the breech.  I would love to take this old gun out hunting but $1300 seems like way to much for a shooter.  I owned one other P grade that was in much better shape that I sold a few years ago for much less.  It was not a straight grip though......is a straight grip stock something that would warrant a higher price

There are a lot of questions left unanswered by the information supplied in your post.

What gauge, what barrel length, what chamber depth, pits, dents, bulges, wall thickness all along the tubes and all around the tubes ? . . . the price may be too high or the gun may be unsafe . . . or the price may be just about right.

Maybe its just me, but I wonder if the gun is being offered by a PGCA member, either an individual or a dealer, and here we are potentially critiqueing a price asked by a member. I know if it was me asking say $2000 and other people that I thought were friends of mine publicly saying that it was only worth $1500, I wouldn't be very happy. Just a thought, the PGCA being an association of both owners and sellers.

And I'm not criticizing Dean's response in any way, I think he said the right thing. But this is the kind of situation that can cause hard feelings.

I did reregister and included a little more info....12 guage, 28 inch barrels....not badly pitted but I do not know the chamber length.  The gun is for sale at a local gun shop and not a private sale......hope this helps.......just looking for the value of a strictly shooter type gun.....

Dave the expression on both your Avatar and the Emoticon at the end of your post are eerily similar.;)

People can do whatever they want Dave. I raise the issue, that's all. Today's buyer is tomorrow's seller and you may be in the position of selling a gun some time.  The internet has the unfortunate tendency to give credibility to everyone so you don't know whether a person who throws out a value is correct or not or whether he even knows what he is talking about.

For the Weeland P grade, I've seen them for sale from $1000 to  $2500. Much depends upon condition. I had a nice one a few years ago and sold it to one of our charter members in the Minnesota Chapter of Bottomfeeders Anonymous for some cash and several bags of potatoes.

Bob: Post the serial number and we can possibly look it up. And better yet post some clear pictures. "P" is one grade that you do not come across as often as others.

BTW $1,300 is not too much for a solid shooter. Just My Humble Opinion----

Best Regards, George

Bob,

Your gun is not listed in the serialization book but a quick check on the home page indicates that the PGCA dose have records for your gun which would support a letter if you chose to order one.

Bob: As Larry said your Parker is not in the Serialization Book but the serial numbers on both sides of your number are for D3 guns, or D Grade. Are you sure that you are seeing a P on the water table and not a D? My advice, spend $40 and get that letter. I just might take you up on that grouse thing.

Best Regards, George

I am pretty sure it is a P grade George.  Same engraving as a P grade anyway.  However, i am not Parker expert yet.....I will go back and check it though....more than likely I did not remember the serial number correctly.

The past few years i have been finding the grouse up high so I have been hunting the foothills and mountains.  Lots of walking between birds but really pretty country.  Every now and then I get into a good bunch of birds but mostly it is a bit of walking between birds.  Always good to have someone else along to pick up those birds i miss!  Hope you make it up this way......
