I was just looking at the James Julia Auction website and wondering how many of our PGCA members will be attending the auction in person and how many will be joining me in bidding on guns by telephone ? ... I'm also curious to know which specific guns our members will be bidding on ... As for me, most of the guns are a little out of my price range at the moment, so I'll be bidding on some of the lower priced guns.

I went to the pre auction show yesterday, and will go to the auction Thursday. There are many, many , similar Parkers. It will be tough to absentee bid, as it will be about an equal chance of ten or zero of a given type depending on both the other absentees, and those on the floor.

I'm competing with myself telling you this, but there are some very nice lifter and hammer guns available, if that is your interest.

Best, Austin

Austin:

You aren't giving away any secrets ... I've already seen the vast selection of great hammer guns in the auction by viewing the Julia Auctions website ...  I've been studying the Julia website for a couple of weeks trying to decide which guns to bid on ... Since I already own the Serial Number 210 gun, think I'll only bid on the low serial number guns ... But I might just take a shot at bidding on the 8 gauge guns just to see if I can get lucky.

My normal travelling companion, Mr. McCormack, has indicated he will not attend.  Is anyone else in the Washington area or a bit north or south driving up?  I would go but prefer to have someone to travel with.  Email me if you need someone to share expenses.

It would be nice if somebody could keep a table of what Jim's guns bring at auction and publish the results.

Might help establish prices for a while.

Lots of Jim's guns appeared to be redone. I saw one at Chantilly that had very thin Damascus barrels that you wouldn't have known from looking at the catalog.

When I registered with Julia Auctions to become  a telephone bidder, the woman I talked to said that the selling prices of all items in this auction would be posted on the Julia Auctions website about four to six weeks after the auction ends ... She also said that I would receive the list of selling prices by mail, four to six weeks after the auction ends ... I'm not sure  if ALL registered bidders receive the list of selling prices or if they only mail it to telephone bidders.

Jim: With a little luck among Allan Swanson and myself, we will try to note the hammer prices, and tabulate them for posting here. The bidders premium is 15% cash and check, 17% other, and represents the real cost when added to the hammer.

Austin ... There are plenty of nice hammer guns to go around ...So please don't buy ALL of them ... Leave a few for  "poor" guys like me !

Best of luck with your bidding.

If you don't spend it all at  Julia Auction, there is also a Parker .410 listed on the Cobbs Auction for October 10th.   see http://www.thecobbs.com

Sorry for any confusion; I ment the auctioneer's quote at the hammer, not just hammerguns.

Austin ... I was just kidding about saving a few of the nice hammer guns for for us "Po-Folks." There is such a wide selection of Parkers in this auction that almost everyone who bids should be able to walk away with something. And after the auction is over we can all have a good laugh comparing notes on the guns that we bid on, the ones we bought, and the ones that got away.

Good luck in your bidding tomorrow,

Jim Kucaba .... Phoenix Arizona

A friend of mine travelled to Cobb's to check this gun out. It is fine little DHE unless you want to actually shoot it - it has over 2" of drop at the COMB and over 3" of drop at the heel! KBM

Just talked to Nancy night before last and apparently Ed is out there looking over the guns and possibly staying for the auction. Anybody talked to him?

To those of you who were able to attend the auction, we hope you can find the time to post some of the results here.

I sure wish I could have made it... had this business meeting right smack in the middle of the day that lasted only a little more than two hours (and turned out to be pretty inconsequential) but I was able to place absentee bids on four interesting Parkers. Now I have to wait until Tuesday to learn the results of my bidding.

So I'd really have to stick my neck out to shoot it, eh?
