I am hoping that the pads are pretty much one size can be fit to all. Galazan only offers one size pad (size 3 & 4) and it is BIG. There will be a lot of work to get this to fit an 0-frame stock. It that the experience of those of you who have had pads fit to Parkers?

I have experience with one of their Winchester pads and it required a lot of material removal for a sixteen gauge but that is what belt sanders are for.

My biggest problem is the wide spacing of the screw holes on there "one size fits all" pads.

Griffin & Howe sells a Silvers style pad almost identical to the Galazan pad (both are made by Ames Rubber) except the plug holes are much smaller on the G&H pad then they are on the the Galazan or real Silvers pads. This makes it a better choice for smaller butts. Both do require a lot of sanding. Either the new Noshoc or the Winchester patent repro pads from Galazan (they are the same pad with different lettering just as the originals were) make a good choice for smaller gauge guns as well and the lettering can be easily buffed off. Unlike the #4 Silvers, Galazan Period Pad and the G&H pad neither the Noshoc or the Winchester have a heel peak, however. Last edited on Wed May 27th, 2009 12:38 pm by Don Kaas

Jay, I fit pads for a living and there is no such thing as 1 pad fits all.Even sizes differ between manufactures, hole spacing is sometimes same across the bord ,but there are some real weird hole spacings out there.Hugh was right theres nothing a belt sander/disc can't cure. One thing to watch out for is the manufactures of some pads place metal washers 3/4" to 1" in diamiter too support the pad when you srew it down.If you want to fit a few pads on your guns, buy a B-SQAURE pad jig from Brownells its worth the $66 bucks.Dale in Canada

Jay: I bought one of the Galazan pads years back for my 0-framed VHE20. No way. Screw holes were wayyy to wide for that stock. I sent it straight back and have entertained no thoughts of replacing the pad since.

I agree with Don. For a 0-frame stock, I'd go with a Noshoc or Winchester "1922 patent" pad. I wasn't aware there were repro Noshocs available (that's good news). That would be the way to go, and if it weren't available the Winchester pad is the same pad with their logo on the butt. It can be sanded right off to be perfectly smooth, at which point it would be indistinguishable from a proper-sized Silvers. Both the Noshoc and Winchester have hole spacings that are better for small stocks, and they have smaller plugs than the large-sized Silvers. I believe (but am not sure) that the smaller sizes of Silvers pads are still available from England?

#3 and #4 size Silvers pads are still available from Kynamco, LTD in the UK. #3 pad has no heel peak and is 7/8" thick and the massive peaked #4 is 1 1/8" thick. They are both available in brick red, black (for your classic AR-15 or 870 Marine) and the correct, original orange color. I presume at one time in the Victorian and Edwardian past, S.W. Silvers & Co. made smaller pads (#1 and #2 ) but alas they do not anymore.

Thanks, all. I appreciate your feedback. Another option would be to have the existing pad covered in leather, however I think that would look pretty unoriginal.
Thanks again,
JDG

I had a leather covered pad on a DHE 16 that looked very nice. I have used Galazans pads on a 1 frame gun and had a lot of sanding to do. A 1/2 inch pad also from Galazan fit very nicely on an 0 frame 20. these arn't always advertised but they do have them.
