I have long admired the Parker shotgun.  Grew up in Maine surrounded by many of the fine guns.  I have owned only one in the past and am looking to buy another.  I have found one that fits me perfectly but i think the price is too high and would like to know if i am incorrect.  The above gun has just a little of the damascus twist pattern showing, no case colors and the stock has been cut and then a piece replaced to bring back to length.  Bored cylinder and modifed/Full. Seems like a solid gun and could be shot.  They measured the wall thickness at 30 thousandths halfway up the barrels.  I would love to take this old gun out hunting but $1300 seems like way to much for a shooter.  I owned one other P grade that was in much better shape that I sold a few years ago for much less.  It was not a straight grip though......is a straight grip stock something that would warrant a higher price.  I did not take any pictures......any help would be greatly appreciated.......

Too much $ with the pieced in stock. $1500 should buy you a very good Vulcan barrelled VH. Keep looking...

Bob, I would be very hesitant to buy that gun.  Unless you KNOW that all you're ever going to do with that gun is hunt with it.  It might be OK.  But what happens when you want that BH with the straight grip?  You just might want to move this gun and with it's troubles it could be a tough sell.  So when I buy a gun, I try to buy one that either a) I wouldn't mind keeping forever because it is so nice or, B) A gun that will sell on its own merrits.  Nothing that I'm going to have to make excuses for.

So take your time, find something that you like better and you didn't feel that you compramized, you will enjoy your Parker much much more.

Donald, sounds to me like our man has cross over to damascus.  Swiching to fluid steel may not be an option.  Solid guns, yes, but...

Thanks for the opinions everyone.  I greatly appreciate your time.  I myself think it is a high price and will try and wait to see if the price drops.  The only thing that really keeps me coming back is that this guns fits me as well as any shotgun I have had in my hands.  This is very rare for me as I shoot a very high stock.  The gun has that live feel plus the highest stock for any of the Parkers I have had in my hands.  If the price drops under $1000 I think i will buy it......

Thanks again for your opinions.  If any of you are ever in Maine and want to check out a few covers drop me a line.....

Dean, I live just northwest of Sebago Lake in a little town called Denmark.  I do however roam many areas in Maine......the western foothills and mountains are my favorites.  There are grouse to be found if you do not mind walking.  Ever hunt the area?

The Western Maine mountains are a wonderful habitat for grouse and deer to say nothing of the fishing there as well. I've spent a lot of time in Naples and Bridgeton but not much time in Norway or the surrounding area other than passing through. I do about 90% of my hunting in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom but your area has always been my second choice - just haven't made the time for it.
