Hi all,

I know this isn’t a Parker topic but Memorial day is here and I would like to let you know about an interesting web location.  Check out http://www.wwiimemorial.com  if you had someone in the family that served in WW-II

I'm sure you have noticed that the number of WW-II vets that you know is getting smaller every day.  When I was young it seemed that it was rare to know someone my parents age that didn’t serve in the war; now I have to think to name one still alive.  If you have someone that is or was close to you and you would like to honor them for their service during WW-II the above link is a good place to start.

I learned about this a few months ago and I have since placed information and pictures of my father and his two brothers at that site.  My Uncle Sam was a career Marine and died shortly after the war began.  My Uncle Frank was a CB in the Navy building island air strips and fuel depots in the Pacific.  My Father served in the Navy on an LST and was at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. They are all gone now.  Being able to acknowledge their service and provide a family photo with it somehow seemed to me like a way to keep their memory alive a little longer.

God bless the vets, past and present.

Robin

Robin thank you for pointing out this interesting website.  My father passed in 2004 and he never used the internet so I am not sure how he registered himself but I was really pleased to find this.  I have a some pictures of him in his uniform and I will now try to figure out how to upload/link them to the site.

Robin: Thank you for giving us a heads up on such a special event. My dad enlisted in the 11th cavalry in 1915 and served on the Mexican Border with General Blackjack Pershing and Captain Patton. He later was "mustangd" from Sgt to Lt at the outset of WWI. Between the wars he was in the automobile business when he married my mother. (I have pictures of them delivering an Auburn Boat Tailed Supercharged Speedster to a doctor in Camden, SC) He re-enlisted in the Quartermaster Corps in WWII. Both are gone now. I just ordered a letter on his Fox Sterlingworth from AHFCA which I had completely restored & gave back to him before he passed in 1974

Best Regards, George
