Nice find Dave:). Are you going to have the barrels redone or will they clean up? Why would you use a 12ga for those itty bitty Grouse:D:D:D.;)

Dean-shame on you for thinking Dave would use a hacksaw on the old girl:shock:. You know he'll put the barrels in a vise and use a skill saw to get a clean even cut:D. Or he could put a few slugs through it and see if that would open her up a bit.

While there are some good ones out there, there are also some that should be written off. This last weekend there was an auction from an auction house where a DH16ga damascus was being offered. They have internet sales, posted poor photos and described the gun and being in "good condition".

I went and looked at it and found that the wood on the stock and forend was so worn that it could not be recheckered without being far below the level of the metal. The forend wood was 1/8" below and could not be raised. The stocked was chopped. The engraving was worn and smooth. The barrels were off significantly off face. The lump had been peened and was worn. The barrels, though not cut, had some nasty dents. The right chamber was bulged. The barrel inside had potholes like a northern road in the spring. The barrel latch catch in the frame had to be  reset manually.

It sold off the internet for $1100. So be careful out there. There are a bunch of them with little use other than spare parts.

About four miles Dean. Dale and I looked at it together, and I hope no PGCA member gets stuck with that one. Its nice to want to save these Parkers but some have been so abused that they are best left to salvage. It seems that to some people, good condition means anything that resembles a gun.

I've been noticing that some table top gun show amateur dealers have been getting into Parkers because as some have told me, there is money to be made in them and they are high value. I saw some of this at the Tulsa show where some of these people don't know a good Parker from a bad one and post high prices for junk. Buyer beware as always.

Dave, yours is a nice gun and I meant no implication that yours is anything like the gun I saw and is not of the type I was warning potential internet buyers about.

However, Dave, I know you want to shorten those barrels and open the chokes for grouse season, so there was Rich's suggestion about the hacksaw. Then the stock is probably too long also with a cold weather coat on, and people want a recoil pad anyway, so that's a thought for improvement. Just trying to help Dave, and we can hardly wait for the photos.
