I finally received my 1928, 12 bore, CHE yesterday!!!  Whoo-hoo, too bad there's no open season currently.  I think she's seen too much closet time and not nearly enough time over tall grains.

I'd say 90% original blue on the bbls, maybe only 5% case color ( I think someone overly cleaned it and never really shot it). Deep engraving in excellent shape, 14 1/4" LOP over a great dark brown leather but pad, and the checkering is 98-99%.

Question, on serial # 230024, did it leave the factory with 30" Acme Steel bbls?  Also where would one find a replacement front ivory bead?  The original one is there but has a large chip out of it.

You need to get a letter on your gun to get that information, it's not listed in the serialization book........ that is a great looking gun! Does it have a sbp or pad?

Very nice C grade Brian. I had CHE 230760 and unfortunately there were no existing factory records for it so I was never able to get a PGCA research letter on it. You'll probably find the same lack of information given that your C and mine are probably in the same missing book. Console yourself in knowing it is a very nice and probably all original CHE.

Best, Dean

Brian,

Congratulations on a great looking Parker. Do you have any more pictures? Post a pic of the floorplate as they are all so different and interesting on these higher grade guns.

There is a certain fellow in Conn. who has one with Gambel's quail on the floorplate. A fabulous gun! Maybe he'll post a picture.

I had that feeling about the letter and that the info wasn't available.  Anyhow, I absolutly love it and honestly it's in superior shape other than the case colors.  No SKB but a custom leather pad of the period.

Here's a pic of the floor plate, that's actually a pheasant, if you look close you can see the long tail feathers sort of hidden with the tall grass.  When I bought it I actually thought it was a drake greenhead...only realized yesterday it was a pheasant.

There may be more information gleaned from knowing for whom the gun was made than from what a research letter may have been able to tell you. Dig into that and let us know what you come up with.

It looks like the bottom entry on the oval is "1929" . . . maybe an award or prize gun?

The shield says "To Roy, From Tom, 1928".

UPDATE:  I just spoke to the seller...his father was ROY!  Per the family understanding; Tom had purchased two guns for friends, one being Roy, other unknown.  Roy died years ago and the gun was kept as a family keepsake until now.

That plate will stay on the gun as long as I own it.

Do you have a picture of the rest of the buttstock checkering ? It looks different than mine, almost like a D grade stock. :?

Steve it is "D" grade checkering...however when you look under the trigger guard it has the matching serial number and the letter "C".  Other posts here indicate that their's also had a "D" checkering and were original to the guns as this looks to be.

You might want to ask the family if they have a photo of Roy with the gun.  Also see if they have any papers or tags.  I really like C grades.  Congratulations!

Brownells sells A Real Ivory bead, but it needs to be filed down and shaped, less than $15.00.  After you shape it soak it in strong tea to age it like the one you have.

Pat, thanks for the info.  I looked at the one by Galzan and it looked stark white versus the "tea" colored ones on the gun.  I'll look Brownells up tomorrow.

As far as ivory beads goes: for the most part there are two styles. The one that is glued into a tapered metal piece that is press fit into a tapered metal hole and another style that is threaded. You should try to get the piece out before ordering one, so that you order the correcty style. When I had to make a repair, I thought the broken one was threaded so I ordered one that was threaded. After ordering it I then tried to drill the old one out of the barrels it came out as a little metal tapered piece. So, I had to clean the old ivory from the tapered metal and file the theads down until it fit. Then epoxy or super glued it in place. Let it dry and then push the metal to metal taper (like a morse taper on a lathe). There are also several sized. Some of which are very large. I got mine through NGC or NCG...something like that. It has been a year. Good luck and you have a beauty of a CHE. Sure looks like a mallard on the bottom. I had been eyeballing that gun on Guns America for a long time. I couldn't figure out why it hadn't sold quicker.

Kurt
