After reading a few of the past turkey tales I thought I would share todays episode. As you can see this gun is not a Parker but rather a custom made 10ga. English Fowler. It is built specially for turkey hunting. By that I mean it is designed for heavy loads consisting of 120gr. 2F black powder under 2oz of nickle plated lead # 6 shot. The barrel has been jug choked making it effective to 40 yards and a little more. This morningI set up on the edge of a pasture with a patch of timber and a creek bottom on the opposite side. At 6:45 a hen came out about 150 ards away followed by 3 mature toms. They strutted for her for 20 minutes and were completely ignored. I was calling as excited as I could get and finally they started to come my way. They cr ossed the pasture in full strut, what a beautiful site.I took the lead bird at 26 yards. My  16 Parker would have done the job nicely at that distance, but I do love to hunt turkeys with tradional Fowlers and whitetails with round balls. Thank you for the opportunity to share this. I do enjoy following this website. Jim

James,

That is a beautiful Fowler! Is it a "ball and shot" gun? Is it the one you hunt deer with?

Thanks, Harry

Harry, Thanks for the kind words. This fowler is jug choked so I have never fired a round ball through it. I hunt with a .58 flintlock English Sporting rifle or a .54 percusion English sporting rifle. Thanks,Jim

today was the last day of season for me our season ends tomorrow. but what a hunt it was today . i got up at430 am and was sitting undera big oak tree by 530am the gobler iwas hunting for started gobbling by15 till 6 i gave a few calls  on my 1963 lyench box call. iwas waiting for gobler to come down old road way. you know aturkey is not suppose to come straght too you but this one did.the mosquitoes were eating me alive irecon he seen me move my hands tring to slap one of those pesky devils.he was at about 30 yards plenty close to kill but that rascal was on the wrong side to get off a shot.turkey started putting and all good hunters know that the burger in the wood pile has been found.ha   turkey left out i figured that gobbler was gone for sure istarted to move postions but tried calling again 30 minutes latter same gobller comes down road like he iwas supposed to  .but for the 2nd time that gobbler spied me .talk about sick. i moved postions then an set up in a field made afew calls set back in my blind an waited by now it is raining like allget out. low an be hold here came that same gobbler and a hen .that old gobbler was supisous of ever thing that moved i did ever thing iknowed an then some to get that gobbler to come in but he would not come into shooying range.finally i decided the only way i could get a shot was to low crawl through tall grass . i crawled about 40 yards seem to take foreverto go so far. i slowly raised up the gobler was still to far for a shot i closed the gap but the hen had spotted me she started running and putting the gobller started on the run ithrew the mighty 8 gauge parker i had to my shoulder to my shoulder but the range was to far even for the mighty 8. was disappointed but time igot home was glad i did not kill him i hope him and the 8 ga parker willget together next spring  charlie
