Has anyone heard of Gagemates (or Chambermates) causing barrel damage (ringing/bulging, blown barrel, etc.) ?
I thought I read a commentary that mentions a burst barrel...
Any first-hand experiences ???
(I want to shoot light 12 ga. RST ammo in my 10 ga. Parker EH - for reasons of economy)
Thanks !!!!!

Hello John, I have recently fired over 200 12 gauge Remington Gun Club 1 and 1/8 ounce 3 dram equivalent target loads out of 2 different antique 10 gauge side-by-sides using GOLD GAUGEMATES and SILVER GAUGEMATES, they both worked great !
If you are going to be shooting an EXTRACTOR GUN then buy the GOLD GAUGEMATES. I use the Gold Gaugemates in my Parker EH Grade 10 gauge with good results firing Remington Gun Club ammo. The hulls will be RUINED when you fire them using Gaugemates so throw them away ! Do not reload shells that were fired in a 10 gauge to 12 gauge Gold Gaugemate chamber convertor.
Good Shooting To You, Jent

Thanks, Jent !
Why Gold vs. Silver ? Is it just because it's a pain to have to poke the hulls out of the adapter, or is there more to the story ?
Thanks again.

I have used the Silver gaugemates quite a lot in my Parker,Scott and Greener 10ga guns and they are great. Yes, I disgard the emptys also, a few split, but not many.

Are the 10 - 20 adapters also split ? {I have a bunch of 20 gauge ammo for a gun I never shoot anymore (a sad story...suffice it to say that I will never buy another Weatherby firearm) - this would be a great way to use it up - assuming it's "safe" to do so in my EH 10 w/ damascus barrels.}
If it's not split, does it still need to be as greased up as the 10-12 ?

John, My 10/20s work fine except I had to trim them to 2&1/2" to fit my old cambers. The fired 20s flair a little from the shortened gaugemates so I don't reload them, but they don't split. I just use a short stick to eject the cases from the inserts. Last edited on Wed Apr 29th, 2009 09:32 pm by Fred Preston

Does your 10 have damascus barrels?
What ammo do you use ? I have a bunch of 1 ounce Remington & Winchester "cheap stuff" ammo - should I/could I assume that this will be "OK" in my old Damascus Parker EH (3 frame) ?
(Heck - I think I should just get the 10-12 inserts...)

My 10 is a 9 pound #2 frame plain twist. I have only used 7/8oz AA 20s for target practice. They break clays ok.

I've used the silver 10/12 Gaugemates in 10-gauge Baker and Ithaca guns with no problems with both Remington STS and compression formed Winchester AAs. I have not used them my Parker Bros. NH-Grade 10-gauge as it has stock dimensions that are not conducive to my shooting.
