Take a look at Herschel's website and tell me what you think.  Has anyone been to our friend's shop lately?  What is happening down there?  He recently had a white A-1 Special Repro in 20 gauge for sale at $8500 that sat there for weeks.  I don't think anyone looks at his site any more.  Is it over?

He's let the shop go and is running things out of his home from what I hear.

About four years ago, Herschel sold his downtown corner building and closed the business at that location. Tom Chapman went into semi retirement and Laurie began  working part time for Herschel.  Herschel, then in his late 60's, went into semi retirement and had the garage of his Terrell TX home rebuilt as an office and gun sales display area.  Last I heard, Laurie still came in a couple days a week and helped out and Herschel continued to make sales and buy guns through his contacts.  About a year ago , he sold a pair of A grades and so far as I know continues to be a small player in the business, as his health and energy permit. He is not much for internet presentations or traveling to gun shows. About a year ago he was making sales to major Parker collectors.

Call Herschel at 972 563 9541 if a person is curious about how he is doing.

Herschel continues to advertise in the Parker section of the Gun List. There is nothing on his web site "THE BEST LITTLE GUN HOUSE IN TEXAS" however & he doesn't send out his list anymore. There was recently offered a high end upgrade Parker "Made Especially For Herschel Chadick" in a big auction, although I don't remember which one. I enjoyed stopping by his place on my way to Dallas & Fort Worth. He once had a VH that had enscribed on the barrel: "Made Especially For Jim Corbett". He also had a big lot of A.H. Fox "Very" Flare Pistols.

Best Regards, George

Herschel sold his upgrade 20ga VHE. It has in gold an engraving of his ranch house, windmill,  blackberry vines I think they were, and quail.  Jim Julia's auction.

Herschel always said that while people mistakenly believed he had a large Parker collection, in fact all he owned that was his and not for sale was the above ranch house gun and some other 20ga, I think it was a higher grade gun. He finally started trying to sell the upgrade 20 a couple years ago and I looked at it while down there. Nice gun but limited appeal and not inexpensive.
