I need a "token price" on a Parker Trojan 20 ga. By that I mean I am being offered this firearm and asked to provide it's price. I need to provide a price that will not insult the party but at the same time the price does not need to be it's actual value as this was "cherry picked" by me from a stack of police confiscated firearms from a dealer friend who is not into doubles and owes me a few favors. So what would be a "great bargain price" for me?
Description: 26" 20 ga. barrels. Exterior of barrels have rust "freckles" and some minor pitting. They appear to have been re blued. The barrel bluing is about 70%. Bores are clean. L frame has no case colors left but show no rust. Stock and forearm are replacements, no checkering and poorly finished. Butt plate has been replaced with a Red Head brand recoil pad (40's or 50's?) that is in bad shape and needs replacement.
Still it is a Parker. I will clean the metal with steel wool and oil. I will strip the wood, add filler (none on it now) and stain to more approximate the Parker color. I will replace the recoil pad with a more respectable recoil pad and use it for grouse walks.
I have to provide a price and pick this up tomorrow. Your help is appreciated.

Chris' price is the absolute max for a restocked gun with pits on the outside of the barrels. Police auction price on such a gun would be $200 to $250.

Bill is probably right, were it not for the replacement stock and forend you would typically find them priced at major dealers anywhere from $1500 to $3000. Last edited on Fri Apr 17th, 2009 12:35 am by Greg Baehman

Thank you Bill Murphy. I was thinking along those lines. I am sorry that I can't provide photos. Last edited on Fri Apr 17th, 2009 12:35 am by Ron Thompson

I agree with Murphy, but I'd stay to the low side of his estimate. We don't know if the barrels have been cut or what other maladies the gun may be suffering. The wood may or may not be salvageable. It is a 20, but it's also a Trojan. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I appreciate the help. I am going to pick it up today providing we can agree on price. I will post before pictures. A previous post revealed a mfg. date of 1929 and that the barrels left the factory as they are now...26" and Imp & Mod.

I have picked up the Parker Trojan. We settled on $65.00 as the price. I have patterned the gun and it has great coverage at 20 yards. I then dismantled the gun. To my surprise the wood is numbered to the gun. The lousy refinish and no checkering (I thought all Trojans were checkered) fooled me. The metal is 60% to 70% and to my untrained eye, original bluing. Two or three pea sized areas of shallow pitting on the barrels. The remainder of surface rust came off with steel wool and oil leaving slight evidence it was there. The bores are as new. Apprx 10% of the case hardening is evident. I took before photos but the blemishes are too slight to show well. The metal parts are soaking in a parts washer and the wood has been stripped in preparation for refinishing. I am really excited. Any estimate of true value based on my description will be appreciated. I don't know how to load photos on this site.

Follow these instructions, and we'll all be able to see you new baby. BTW, go easy with the steel wool. Hoppe's, a patch and a bit of elbow grease is what's needed.

Could have bought it in new condition for less-----in 1929.
Enjoy your "new" Parker.

Did you pay just $65.00 for the Trojan?

Pat,
Yes...$65.00.
John,
Thanks for the caution on the steel wool. I used #0000 and Kroil Oil. Did not seem to harm the bluing and removed the rust. I will continue the scrubbing with patches and Hoppes as you suggest.
I will use your link and attempt to upload a few photos. Poor old girl wasn't teated too well (storage) by the police.
